King of the Mountain Rules

Competitor Eligibility:
• Side X Sides must carry a driver and passenger at all times. Only the registered competitors are allowed in the machine.
• One rider per ATV. No switching of riders allowed during the race.
• All Side X Side competitors must be at least 16 years of age.
• All ATV competitors must be at least 16 years of age.
• Entry fee per machine is $50 at event.
• Any competitor under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be allowed to race, and entry fees will not be refunded.

Registration:
• Competitors must register for the race before operating their machine anywhere within the competition area. Competitors may not exceed 5mph when traveling to/from the pit area, and must always wear a helmet and eye protection when moving.

• Competitors must have two numbered plates, one on each side of the machine. All number plates must have a white background with black numbers. For Side X Sides the stroke of the number must be at least 1” and the height must be at least 8”. ATV numbers must be 6” tall. Machines must also have a front number plate that has a white background with black number at least 4” tall. ATVs must also have a rear number plate with numbers at least 4” tall.

• All machines, competitor helmets, and safety gear must be taken through tech inspection prior to racing for the purpose of inspecting safety gear, helmets, and number assignment. Safety equipment and machine eligibility are the sole responsibility of the competitors.

• All machines must have the supplied Ultimate Motorsports decal on the front left and right bodywork in a highly visible place.

Start Procedure:
• Teams will be assigned a Start Row. Teams shall line up on their assigned row when directed by the race official. No one is permitted on the starting line until authorized.
• A Drivers Meeting will be conducted on the starting line before the start of the race. All competitors are responsible for attending.
• The start of the Side X Side race will be a dead engine start. All competitors will be required to turn off their engines. An official starter will wave the green flag signaling the start of the race.
• The start of the ATV race will be a Le Mans start. All machines will be parked on the start line. The competitors will line up behind the machines at a distance. When the official waves the green flag signaling the start, the competitor will run to their machine, start the machine and begin the race.
• Any false starters will be penalized 2 laps.

The Course:
• The King of the Mountain course will be between 4-5 miles in length, and may include trails, footpaths, roads, hills, or any type of terrain that can be negotiated by a UTV or ATV.
• The course will be closed to anyone except official race staff until the start of the race. No pre-running of the course allowed. Any competitor found to be in violation will be disqualified, with no refund of entry fee.
• No one, except official race staff and officially entered competitors may drive or ride on the course at anytime during the event.
Scoring:
• There will be one checkpoint at the Finish Line. Machines must come to a complete stop at the Finish Line checkpoint. The section from the Finish Line to the scoring area is a “No Passing” zone.
• There will also be random rolling checkpoints along the course that may require you to come to a complete stop.
• Teams/vehicles may not be serviced or pitted in the area between the Finish Line and the Finish Line Checkpoint, or in the area immediately after the Finish Line Checkpoint.

On Track Regulations:
• Competitors must remain on the marked course. The marked course is within 15 feet on each side of the centerline of the course. However, competitors must stay within the confines of the following markers: double arrows posted on both sides of the trail, ribbons, signs, stakes, hay bales, barrels, etc.

• Competitors encountering a traffic jam or bottleneck may not go more than 15 feet off of the course to get around the bottleneck. The competitor must re-enter the course as soon as possible, and upon approaching this section the next lap, must drive the original arrowed section if the track is clear. If the original marking devices are knocked down, the competitor must stay on the original marked course. A “bottleneck” is a section of the track that becomes impassable for any reason, with the exception of check points.

• Machines may not cut to the inside of a corner marker. The corner marker overrides the 15’ of the center line rule.
If a machine leaves the course for any reason it must re-enter where it left.

• Competitors may make repairs to their vehicle anywhere along the course. You may not receive outside assistance from a crew member or spectator. Assistance from other competitors is allowed. All such repairs must be made without causing interference with other competitors and in a suitable area off the racetrack. Pushing by the registered competitor for that machine is allowed. No pushing or towing is allowed from other competitors or machines.

• Radios are permitted between pit crew members and competitors.

• No competitor may drive in such a manner as to endanger life or limb of other riders, officials or the public. Competitors will be penalized for the reckless operation of their machine or for hitting or injuring an official or any person. Competitors are solely responsible for their own safety.

• Unsportsmanlike conduct or the deliberate ramming, blocking, or intentional contact with another competitor will result in a penalty.

• Team Tactics include blocking, allowing another competitor to pass in order to affect the outcome of the race, or exchanging machines in order for another competitor to continue the race will not be allowed. All competitors involved will be penalized.

• Driving in the course in the opposite direction will result in an immediate disqualification.

• Pit stops must be performed in the designated pit area.

• No alcohol is allowed in the pit area at any time before or during the race. This applies to drives as well as drivers as well as crew.

• Fuel can only be kept in designated areas.

• Driver changes during the Side X Side race may only take place in the pits.

• Competitors are responsible for the actions of their entire pit crew.

• Competitors will be disqualified for driving/riding on the race course during the 14 days prior to the first day of the event.

Race Finish:
• The race officially ends for all contestants at the completion of the lap in which the checkered flag is displayed to the winner.

• To be considered as having completed a lap, the driver and his machine must cross the plane of the checkered flag under the machine’s unaided ability. Towing or pushing by another machine or competitor is not allowed. If a machine crosses the line with the assistance of another competitor or machine a penalty will be assessed. If the machine is pushed across the line by the registered competitor for that machine only, the lap will count with no penalty.

• Machines will be scored in order of finish and laps completed. It is not necessary to complete all laps in order to be scored.

• Results: Competitors have 30 minutes to finish the race after the overall winner takes the checkered flag. It is the driver’s responsibility to make sure he is scored correctly. A competitor may question the results within the 30-minute period following posting of the final results. After 30 minutes, awards will be given out.

• Protests must be in writing and specify the grounds for the protest.

• Penalties will be assessed at the discretion of the official based on the severity of the offense, and may include one or more of the following: position(s), lap(s), time adjustment, disqualification, or fine.

• The managing race official’s decision is final.
