Remove the fan and try it. It will make it want to lay-down some.

The fan cools the header and rubber exhaust-hangers. Remove the plastic housing, plastic hose and fan itself. I removed mine, so have others will no ill effects.

Wind shield?

An after market CDI either increases or eliminates, cant remember which, the rev limiter. Should gain around 7-10 MPH on top end. It also helps with reverse limiter.

When that fan got underwater, it definitely bogs down the motor.

This is what I had on my 07. No problems with it over 5000+ miles.
