PostSubject: LED bar specs....   Sat Mar 23, 2013 11:57 pm

I, for the first time last weekend, saw a 40-inch double-row bar lit.......DAMN. Night turned into the apocalypse (Will roflmao ). I thought HIDs were the shit....Not now. All the watt, lumens ,Cree stuff is confusing....Somebody explain it....But I am not paying 400.00 for a 40-inch bar that cost the Chinos 30.00 to build..

for the most part you have 2 led chips to choose from with the import LED bars. Cree and epistar, Cree is a more efficient chip that will emit more lumen per amp. however, there is nothing wrong with an epistar bar.

prices of a 40 inch dual row is going to run 400 ish while a single row is 300 ish.

they are addictive Wink

also, some of your American "assembled" lights companies may have housings machined in the US but where are the led chips made?

So the higher the lumens, the brighter the light? When does the wattage come into play? More lumens=more watts?

You can get the new version of a Totron 30" bar with 3 watt Cree Leds for 350. They put out around 15,000 Lumens, Mine is the old style that puts out around 11,000 to give you an idea of the difference.. Sucks if I would have just waiting a couple months I'd got the new style. They are all REALLY bright though.

Honestly if I had it to do over again, I probably would have just bought the single Row light with 5w leds. Little less lumens, but my guess is the higher wattage leds have a little more throw, but don't light up everything as bright.. Also a little lower profile..

Lumens is a measurement of light output.
Wattage is a measurement of power consumption.
LED's claim to fame is you get "X" # of lumens using less watts of power compared to other types of lights. LED's don't waste the energy by making heat. More energy is converted to light rather than heat. That gives you the ability to have a light with a higher amount of lumens without the problems of trying to power it (heavy gauge wire, relays, excessive pull on charging system).
