| I have used a Garmin etrex. most use either garmin or magellan, though Garmin is more popular. I think the Windrock atv club site has a link to the gps coordinates for most of the trails up there. If you're looking for a GPS, check out ebay for a good deal, or you may find a good deal at an online retailer. Just one with all the bells and whistles might be a little too much if all you're planning on doing is using it on the trails. Find a simple handheld model that is easy to operate. Also if you get one, do get a mount for your handlebars or roll bar. Also a GPS is no substitute for a good map of the areas, have a gps and a map, it will make your coordinating a lot easier. These days you can get GPS with uploadable sd cards that already have the maps loaded, so you may not have to search for uploadable maps, but some areas you still may. www.garmin.comwww.magellan.comwww.lowrance.comHere's a few links that might put you in the right direction. Hope this helps. | |

| i usually use the maps also if avaiable gps is a back up for a uh-oh situation but when no map or guide of sort(friend who are familiar with the area) a gps is a must a mount would be nice but i just put mine between the shifter and intake or in my cupholder | |

| I mainly mounted mine in front of my handlebar pod so I could see where i was and decide where to go fast if necessary. But that's just me. Since mine's a basic model, i only use it to show where i have been and to mark where i parked( in case i get lost out on the trails). Ram makes awesome mounts for GPS and about anything else you might want to keep with you in easy access out on the trails. www.ram-mount.com | |

| I use a Lowrance 540($450),I bought specifically for Hatfield McCoy.I figured I could turn on tracking and I could find my way back home from wherever I was.I however did not need a map to navigate H&M trails. They are so well marked and easy to follow on the FREE map> they have maps almost everyhwere around town and at the trailheads I believe.
Look into the Lowrance XOG($200 or less) also, its cheaper and not as complicated to use and it does what you need | |
