| This might prove to be a rather unpopular question but one that I am curious about none the less. My wife and I have only been able to go on one group ride. Pretty sure it was March 09. The ride site was “The Wagon-wheel” area in southern West Virginia. Even though that is the ride that turned out to be the Famous “Bobby D” guided trip, we had a ball none the less. Got to meet a lot of folks whom we had got to know on line for the first time. We really liked the Ashland Campground. We liked the trails too. Beautiful country to see and ride through. So the Board seemed to think of this ride as a big bust. Nobody wanted to go back. Was this because nobody liked that area? The camp grounds? The riding? Or some of the chaos caused by who was leading the ride? (Bobby) We aren't much on rock crawling or deep mud, but thought that the trails that we rode offered a little something for everyone. The wife's cancer is in remission and we pray that it will remain so. One more shoulder surgery and I should be about as good as I'm gonna get. We hope like hell that the coming year will find us out and about again, riding with our friends and enjoying life. Now I'd really like to hear what everyone has against this area. What am I missing here? Thanks for your thoughts. | |

| Not sure, but I went on a club ride a few years ago and stayed in Gilbert and the campground on the hill. Great place, just bad owners I am not so big on easy trails and not so big on tear your stuff up trails either. I am 58 and been through some bad surgeries too. Watch most of what I ride on. Only had the RZR on the side once in 5 years. If it looks like I am in a bind, a use the 2 way and our trail buddies come to the rescue. We took some nasty trails to get to some of the best scenery last weekend. Even got the Colonel up the Widow Maker and he only has limited use of one arm and hand do to partial paralyzes. Like me, he would rather do the things he enjoys instead of dwelling on his problems. Him and Tammy were all smiles after that ride. Hope to see you on a ride someday. | |

| I was on that ride, the group consensus of that ride as I remember it, Long way to go to spend it following bobby D down dirt roads and thru mud holes. Many of the guys want to ride way more challenging terrain, they want hill climbs, rock crawling and rough trails. I had a good time but it was very tame compared to most of the other rides I attended. | |

| I have been to Wagonwheel and Hatfield McCoy several times, to me it's not worth the extra 200 miles + time compared to riding in KY / TN If you want tame, ride Royal Blue or stay on the green trails there are plenty of them. When you have a large group like ours you also get many variations on what people want to ride. | |

| I wasn't on that ride, But I've heard about it.. I don't think we have anyone who wants to run dirt roads all weekend. I know in my case when I drive 5 plus hours to go ride I want to hit the fun stuff. We have plenty of fields, dirt roads, even a OHV park here we can ride. Heck I have woods and a creek on my own property. Its just not the same kind of riding we get going to TN and Ky. Its no even about super hard trails.. Cause we have plenty of hills around here you can kill your self on.. I just like the constant elevation changes. And I like technical trails. I like going up a hill or through a rock section that not everyone and their mother can drive right through. A challenge here and there is what makes it fun to me. I see no reason to have a 20k machine if I'm just going to drive it on stuff my sons gokart could do..
I've been to royal blue once.. It was a club ride last year. We had a good time because of the people. But a 170 was able to go on every trail we did with only a little help on a few muddy hills. Not my kind of riding. Tame riding even for my son who was six at the time. If it was less of a drive no big deal. But for me to drive 10+ hours round trip and burn a 3 day weekend the riding has to be worth it.

| Glad you and your wife are feeling better Phil! Hope you two can get out and ride with us again! On the ride in question. I remember you left a little early and didn't get to ride a whole lot. If you want me to be honest, I'd never waste my time to ride at that (excuse my french) shithole again, ever!!!! 30 ft mudhole,20 ft mudhole,30 ft mudhole... Our moron of a leader took us down pig-trails with briars that were barely wide enough for a quad, for miles on end......Asshat! The campground was nice and maybe riding the HM trail-system would be fine. But the so-called "Outlaw" trails we rode sucked Donkey-Balls..... | |

| Yes you're right Jimbo, we did have to leave early. Ashland screwed up our reservation for the cabin and we only got it for one night and had to bail. And yes Bobby really screwed things up for sure that weekend. Never meant to make anyone sore, but if ya don't ask, ya don't know right? Thanks for your replies fellas! | |

| Tick, how far are you from Royal Blue? That is where we have the Family Ride. I think you would really enjoy that place. As 8 ball said you can get an RZR 170 through most of the Trails.
8 Ball, we now know are way to the sand minds from Royal Blue...... So if you want a challenge we got it.

| Ronnie is right Phil, Ride Royal Blue is not nearly as rough as others in the area. | |

| I've been to the outlaw trails once. And even though it is beautiful scenery the trails just weren't what I was looking for. I like using the four wheel drive feature our buggies were built with. The same goes for Carolina Adventure World and Durhamtown Plantation which are both much closer for me. I've been there once to see what it was like, and neither had any appeal.
Now if someone could show me some areas in WV where the trails were similar to what we ride at Windrock, Black Mtn., Brimstone, or TWRA I would go back in a heartbeat. I like the fact that most communities in WV are ATV/UTV friendly and I enjoy going to areas that need tourism dollars. I will say though that I'm not particularly crazy about H/M's policies and enforcement. I would like to enjoy a beer or two while taking breaks without having to worry about ending up in jail. I'm also mature enough to make the decision to not wear a helmet if I choose to.
