Talked to nocerisdave on the phone this afternoon. Said he is OK. Said Sporto and Wheels were also. He has no power and is not sure if the phone lines for the internet are down or not. He is getting a generator going, not sure when we may hear from him due to the internet access possibly being down.

Hope everyone is ok in the far south. We are dealing with flooding right now. Not even at home. Had to leave yesterday and stay with my parents. Kinda hard when you are 42 years old staying in your parents house. Hear are a couple pics of the road and fields right behind my house. My house is just the other side of the woods you can see in the far left.

I couldn't stop thinking about the shit that hit your area, Dave. Was in the Pete on my way back from Durango, Iowa......in some snow....I called Jimbo to check on him and Mike...called Big R to check on him.....called Yankee to check on him and asked if he heard anything out of you..... he checked the last time you were on the site and told Marty we needed to see how you fared. I had no way of finding a phone # for you so asked Marty to look on the site in the "Our Real Names" section to see if we had a # for ya.....he called me back, after talking to you, to tell me that you were ok and that you had talked to Sporto and Wheels and all were ok. Man I can't tell you how relieved I was to here that news. to all that went through that storm.

Hackleburg north of Tuscaloosa, last I heard was 12 dead. This is the same tornado that went through my home town. By the time it had reached Arab, it had created another tornado, smaller, following the 1 mile wide one.

The amount of work just to clean that mess up is unimaginable. I suppose the National Guard will be working on it for awhile?

They are Yank. There is a curfew from dust till dawn that the guard is helping with and clean up. FEMA is also here in our area. Last I heard FEMA had 120 generators in north AL. Cell phone service is spotty to say the least. So many things we take for granted are just not available, at this time. Everyone is doing there part...a local grocery store donated all their perishables to the community and the fire department went to cooking and delivering to anyone who needed help. Needless to say there were lots of folks who were in need. All Walmarts and drug stores here are allowing a few at a time in the stores and the lines are crazy long. We are still without power here. All of Huntsville is too. Gas is at a premium right now and lines are as long as a mile or so in some areas. On Thursday Interstate 65 was backed up for 15 miles while people tried to exit to cities that still had power and fuel.
Our company being emergency response have access without the lines which is a huge blessing. Water was thought to become an issue but power has been restored to drinking water plants as of yesterday. Without water I can only imagine how crazy it could have been. Sewers every where are backing up in the streets from lack of power to pump lift stations.
The main station where we get fuel, during normal times, was broke into Thursday night and the owner was staying there to curb robbery. The looter was shot and killed by the owner. :,)
My break is over and I am headed back out.

Yes, people who have never been through a disaster like this don't realize that dealing with the aftermath is equally as bad as the disaster itself. The Red Cross helps a lot too. It's amazing how disasters like these pull communities together.

Still several unaccounted for
Alabama: 249 dead Mississippi: 35 dead Tennessee: 34 dead Georgia: 15 dead Virginia: 5 dead Louisiana: 2 dead Kentucky: 1 dead
Deadliest Tornadoes in U.S. History
1.) March 18, 1925: 747 people killed after tornadoes hit Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. 2.) April 27, 2011: At least 354 died across eight states. 3.) March 21, 1932: 332 killed, most of them in Alabama, in a wave of tornadoes across the Southeast. 4.) May 17, 1840: 317 died, nearly all of them in the city of Natchez, MS, after tornadoes hit Louisiana and Mississippi. 5.) April 3, 1974: 310 killed in what is known as the "Super Outbreak" when 148 tornadoes rampaged across 13 states over a 24-hour period. From TVA on power
More than 200 of the 80- to 150-foot-tall towers that hold the utility's high voltage transmission lines - some in remote locations - were either damaged or destroyed in the storms.
I hear now that there were 11 EF-2 Tornadoes, or higher, that touched down in AL. At least two of theses hit the town of Hackleburg. One EF-2 and one EF-5.
Rating wind speed number that touched down
EF-5 winds over 170 MPH 1
EF-4 up to 170 MPH winds 6
EF-3 up to 140 MPH winds 1
EF-2 up to 120 MPH winds 2
Just to give an idea of the time line. Morgan county, where I live, was under a tornado warning or tornado emergency, 6 times in about 3 hours.
