PostSubject: Weber alternator problems   Weber alternator problems EmptyWed May 18, 2011 6:15 am

Well as some of you know I broke down the 2nd day of riding at HMT because my alternator went out.
last it broke was the termial lead and I fix that and this time looks like the bearings went out,
but thats my bad because last time I had it out I knew they would last long.
New alternator for my ride is $302 and to re build mine is $150
I thought about doing something like these kits

http://www.db-starter-alternator.com/p-5819-new-polaris-ranger-atv-50-amp-bolt-on-alternator-kit.aspx

or I might try a marine alternator

the funny thing is badride Roger has the same set up and hes told me tonight that he
has never had a problem with his and badride dont pussy foot around when it comes to mud or water

I think you just had a bad alternator. Just have the thing rebuilt for now. If it jacks up afterwards, then spend the big money.

What Are the Causes of Alternator Failure?
Losing Ground = maybe
Belt Slippage =yes belt was slipping sometimes at start up
Over spinning= My weber redlines at 8300rpms
Heat from the exhaust = I have a heat sheild just in case
