| The body of U.S. Army Pfc. Brett Wood is expected to arrive at the Monroe County Airport at 9:32 Sunday morning.
His family will leave Spencer at 7:30 a.m. in a procession from West, Parrish & Pedigo Funeral Home to the airport, according to funeral director Steve Pedigo.
A military honor guard will meet the 19-year-old Spencer man’s casket as it is carried from the airplane. Pedigo said there will be a brief ceremony for Wood’s family inside the Cook Group hangar at the airport. Wood’s 21-year-old brother, Nikk Wood, who joined the Army with his brother, is escorting the body.
The return procession, led by a hearse, will travel west from the airport on Ind. 48, north on Ind. 43 and west on Ind. 46 into Spencer. Residents are encouraged to line the route but must stay completely off the roadway.
Wood was killed Sept. 9 by a roadside bomb in Kandahar Province in southern Afghanistan. | |
