| I will tell you, if you don't have the base unit like Mason can get you, you are missing half of the fun of a group ride. Also the distance that you can call is something you can not get from a hand held. | |

| I think I will get one from Mason soon, I do not want a handheld.
So are the antennas pretty durable? I know when we used to run cb radios the antennas were consantly breaking.

| From what I understand FRS and GMRS are UHF frequencies. So you need a UHF mobile radio and antenna. You can get VHF radios which is what marine radios are its also what Rugged radio's uses. They do better in the mountains, But you wouldn't be able to talk to guys with handhelds if you bought a VHF radio.. The trick with our radio's is that a GMRS radio is only suppose to have an output of something like 5 watts.. So finding someone that will program a 30+ watt mobile radio to FRS and GMRS frequencies is the thing. They aren't really legal.. | |

| You cant go wrong with Masons set up, he can get the total pakage with radio ,ant, wire hook up, mic, and its works great, and as Gimp said on the rides it is half of the fun to listen to the batter between buggys, which you can never hear all of it it on the hand helds. | |

I've been told this by several people. Including a radio shop.. Only thing that sucks is Everyone has to have VHF radios and have them programed for the same frequency range.. Good thing about the GSRM radio's is guys can stop by walmart and for 40 bucks can join in on the fun. I've been very happy with the range of my UAF radio. I only have a cheap 1/4 wave antenna and the range is been pretty good. The only time I've really had problems is talking to the guys with handhelds that are far away.. When talking to another machine with mobile installed they do great.

| Just a quick tip that might be helpful for everyone. Zip tie the mike cord just after the connection to the radio to keep it from shaking. This will lengthen the life of the cord. | |

that is correct but the range is why we did it. we have tried every combo and the marine has reached the longest distance. I like to be able to get to the cabin late and everyone is out night riding and being able to call them from brimstone if they are at the flats and find out where they are. GSRM radio's we couldnt do that.
