Just what I was gonna say........the 660's are known for going out at in-opportune times. And have always read that the BRP ones are top-notch.

The one way valve is designed to only allow flow in....I.E. a vent. If you roll the machine it closes to prevent fuel spillage.

| I have a 06 5,000 miles, never any fuel pump problems. Has had vapor locking problems which a lot of people mistake for the fuel pump. Easy fix & the best mod u can do is to buy a mr gasket micro fuel pump (get em at about any auto parts place) mount it on the wall behind the drivers seat & plum it into your fuel line. Mount a momentary toggle on your dash to run it. Any time it vapor locks just flick the switch for a few secs & your wheels will never stop rolling. I like the momentary toggle that way you can't accidentally leave it on. If you run it all the time even with a regulator it's to much pressure, It will unseat the needle valve & cause gas to get in you oil. It has been my favorite mod I have done. | |

Yes you should be able to.I would take it off and try to run without it.I threw the one away on my 07 660 and never had another problem.

| Like Yank said, I got the pump kit from Weller Racing and it seems to have ended my problems. Install was way easy. Just ordered a supply of new fuel filters from them yesterday. Really good folks to deal with. | |

| Oh wise ones... My 450 fuel pump acted up on Saturday, losing its prime and stopping pumping after we'd taken a break. I've already replaced the original fuel pump once, because of similar symptoms. I think it may be vapor lock kinds of issues, but the end result is the same.... Should I replace it with an electric pump (such as BlackRhino Performance) or with the high volume pump from Weller Racing, which appears to be a pulse-type pump. I'm leaning toward the electric one... | |

| Go with the Weller pump. Great trouble free setup. | |

| I think you will be okay with either one Kent. I have personally used the BRP kits, but I understand that the Weller pumps are fine too. I just like the idea of an electric pump vs. a vacuum one. In addition to the pump I also installed a Mr. Gasket inline fuel pressure regulator and in the event of another failure I also carried a marine fuel priming bulb. You can pump fuel by hand while driving to get yourself off the trail. | |

| I wouldn't run an electric pump without a cutoff switch. I'd hate to be upside down with the fuel still flowing. I ditched my stock pump for a dual outlet Mikuni pump. It's basically the same one Weller sells but I pieced it together to save money. I have a priming bulb plumbed for a backup and to make it easy to start my Rhino after it sits for a while. | |

| No need for all the electric-fluff Kent. Get the Weller and be done with it. | |

| Thanks, guys! In researching the electric pumps, I ran across the concerns about rollovers, in addition to the higher pressure causing carb issues (that could be catastrophic for the engine), and the possible need for pressure regulators -- which don't seem to function well at this low of pressure...
I've never really had a hard starting problem after it sitting for long periods. I just choke it, and it starts after no more than 30 seconds of cranking, even if it has set for months. (I have an Optima battery after the original one died.)
Both times that I've experienced this, it was after riding fairly hard, then taking a rest break.... which made me think it was vapor-locking because of parking it with the engine fairly hot. I replaced the original pump with a new Yamaha pump, which lasted a couple years, and then the same thing again.
Now, I'm leaning toward that Weller pump, and adding a marine primer bulb should it lose its prime...
Around the farm, it starts easy -- almost instantaneously, if I'm using it regularly, and performs flawlessly.
