PostSubject: places to ride   places to ride EmptyFri Jun 27, 2008 10:37 pm

looking for a place to head over labor day weekend......we are thinking about going to Black Mountain in Evarts, KY, Windrock in TN, Hatfield McCoy in WV or possibly Brimstone. They are all about 5-6 hours from me so that really doesn't matter.........has anyone been to all of them? I've only been to Evarts, but i consider it one of the best places to ride........are the others the same or better? anyone that has some info i would appreciate it.........thanks

Come to WV and ride with the Yankee. I'll be riding that weekend for anyone that wants to join me. No ride fees here. 👅 And closer for you than Hatfield/ McCoy Trails. I'm not familiar with Brimstone, but you cant go wrong with any of the other 3 places. All have good riding. Also, I believe we are planning a ride to Middlesboro, KY. on Sept 20th with BCO and the boys. :<peppers:

Windrock is okay, but Evarts is much better IMO. The trails WV Yank is talking about are pretty darn good. I don't think you would be disappointed. You would save lots of money over Hatfield McCoy not buying permits. I have heard good things about Brimstone and a place called Royal Blue. I think of all the places I have ridden, Evarts takes it, if for nothing more than the Harlan Ridgerunners. Those guys rock!

Let me check my calender.......oh, nope, still going to be stuck here in the sandbox. Hope you guys have a great ride. Be safe!

I have been tho Evarts, Windrock, WV and Bell county. I love them all. I did not get to enjoy Evarts as much as I should have. It was really fogy that day and I could not see the area very well. However, the trails were damn fun woo hoo Windrock is a lot of fun also. You can track many miles there. BC and WV were lots of fun. I think it was mainly because of the company I was with Chug .

You are not going to go wrong with any of these places. Everyone will tell you that. Moreover, our favorite places will probably differ from member to member. Look in the state rides and photo links for many pics of each.

WV does have alot to offer. The trails are pretty wide for the most part. A UTV has no issues, and there are no people around telling you to wear a helmet or not to drink. I myself wear a helmet, but I know some people don't like them. I don't know about Windrock............seems like they are getting too strict about everything. At least that is what I hear. There are some real challenging trails there though. I just think they have like a 15mph speed limit now in the only places you are able to open em up (the gravel roads). If you are into technical riding (rocks, steep hills, ruts, etc) then Windrock is the place to go. Evarts, well, you have the best of both worlds. They really stress the helmets (good idea IMO), but you get off the park and you can ditch it if you want. Also, you can rip around those haul roads and timber roads with no worries except trail hazards and the occasional other rider. When I went it was a little cold, but it probably was the most scenic ride I have been on. We were ripping up the trails 35-50mph, depending on the terrain. I am just glad I was on the King with that great suspension. There were a few hills in Evarts that made my bunghole turn inside out, but we made it through it all with no incidents.
