Just a warning. Empty
PostSubject: Just a warning.   Just a warning. EmptySat Dec 08, 2012 1:32 am

Just thought I would post this info to help out any teryx owns.

My Teryx has been down since early last spring. Just would not start anymore, so I parked it for the summer as I have been riding my Harley ALOT. Just got around to tearing into it and found the intake valves on the rear cylinder were stick about half way open. I could take a screw driver and LIGHTLY pry up on the rock and it would pop very loud. The valves would now be closed all the way.

I have tore it down and have the head completely off. Guess I will be looking for new valves but this is what I have also found out. I did some research and found there is a huge number of people having valve problems. Seems Kawasaki made them way to soft. This is causing people to have to adjust a lot and can also cause the tops (or stems) to mushroom. I dont know if they have changed material in the newer units as mine is a 09 but if they haven't then those of you with the 12 and 13's had better keep an eye on things. I hope this helps others to prevent any extra expense.

Change the springs is the worst part very weak. Most trouble comes from the exhaust valves. Big kev's performance has a good deal on good valves.

I have had valves on all types of engines stick here in MN since the gov't mandated treehugger gas. This ethanol garbage evaporates down to a tar. Bends push rods because valves get stuck. Not bad if you start every engine every week or two. Also eats rubber and corrodes aluminum. Illegal to get real gas delivered here. Gov Dayton probably doesn't even know what a valve is.
