Bought a big John Deere 56 in. cut , 26 hp and it did a good job for a couple of seasons mowing typical WV yard up and down a hill. Started not going up the hill when it got hot and got worse each time I mowed. Started doing some research and found out that all the mowers that are not commercial use the same transmission, a K-46. According to the info this is a very weak made part that is not made to have the oiled changed or even checked without removal and it is junk when it starts acting up and has to be replaced.
If I am going to replace it, I'm not going to put the same thing in so I found a co. that makes an upgrade for it , a K-66 that is commercial grade. $1598!!!!! He has sold over 700 of these upgrades for every type mower out there that you see in the $1000 to $2000 range that all have this cheep trany.
Sorry for the long post but hopefully this might help someone who is gettin ready to buy a mower, or if you have a mower that is going down. Got to get the yard mowed before I'm allowed, that is, before I can ride

Take the front axle off, mount a tongue to the front and tow it behind your RZR!!

Yep, the $2,900 to $3,500 range just won't last like the $10,000 +- ones will. I have a 61", 25 H.P. Kawasaki FERRIS full suspension that listed for $12,000. I bought it this time of year, 5 years ago, for $7,200 out the door. A last years model. No problems yet. I mow about 9 acres with it.

I mow with a 1979 Cub Cadet 1450 and a 1963 Cub Cadet 100, lol!!! These were made back when International Harvester still owned Cub Cadet. They don't make them like that anymore unless u spend some big bucks. The 1450 changes it's own oil, luckily I got a 7.3 diesel that gives me 4 gallons of used oil at changes to put back in it!!

I've got an older John Deer mower. I think I bought it in 04-05 for 3,200 give or take. Knock on wood its been great. It starts up easily every time and never misses a lick. I was told by one of the guys at John Deere that I should keep it because that was a good model.. The newer ones just aren't built as good. I only cut a couple acres with it though the rest I bush hog, but thats only what the horses don't eat. They keep the grass down pretty good. Only have to go over it about twice a year.
My dad as had a commercial lawn care business for the past 10+ years or so.. He really likes Kubota Zero turns.. Couldn't tell you what models he has now though.. I know he has had almost everything and keeps going back to Kubota. If I was going to be running the snot out of one I'd probably get one of those. Him and his guys are very hard on his. They run them all day 5-6 days a week all summer and he keeps a mower for a couple seasons..

I bought a commercial grade Toro ZTR 62" cut Kawasaki 23 HP 12 years ago. Built tough, used it to push fence posts, drag logs and cut grass. All I do is change the oil / air filter, sharpen blades and grease.

Mine has a hydraulic powered sleeve hitch on the back (like a three point). With redneck ingenuity, I use it to till the garden with a front tine hand tiller!!!
