Only thing you want to program is transmit and receive frequencies, both those should be the same. Leave Pl and any other tone option blank or you won't be able to hear other people.

It will work on the frequencies that we use. That antenna that you reference is a taller antenna with slightly more gain. To me, it looks like you would be better off with a 1/4 wave, shorter, antenna like this one on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/371250263919?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
You would be less likely to break it off.

The longer one will work with our frequencies but that whip is 13". I don't think that would be any better. I have seen flexible uhf antennas but can't find the link.

Who makes Tyt radios?

TYT is the company. They are a Chinese radio company. I have been selling their radios for about 18 months. I have not had any radios returned for any kind of repairs. I did have one sent back the other day. I got the radio and check it out. The problem was the power connector was completely filled with mud. Cleaned the connector out and radio tested 100%.
