| I have no reverse and no low, I've tried adjusting the shifter-rod with no luck. My shifter seems loose all of a sudden. My wife was in it this afternoon and it started acting-up with her. Is there a pic, I think you have the manual down-loaded, with the shifter internals?? I can take off the rod and get it in-gear, the mounting-bolts are tight but the shifter-box seems sloppy?? I've looked at a parts-fisch, but it doesnt show the box internals. I hope my race speed-shifting between hi and low has not bit me......I hope your not asleep yet....... |

| After reading and looking at Yank's post ...... that is if you are still sitting up!!!!! Check the bolt on the shift linkage to where it attaches to the motor high on the passenger side. If it backs off and the arm slips off the collar it won't allow it to shift to low or reverse either. If that isn't it ..... reread Yank's post .... may the force be with you!!!!!!! | |

Wing thanks, did that first thing. My 450 used to come loose there, not this time. I found one bearing and two springs in the shifter housing, laying in the bottom. I had to stop for a while as frustration was setting-in and I was about to destroy something....... |

| So its in your shifter and not in the transmission? That should be an easier fix hopefully? | |

| After beating myself and almost burning my Rhino. I've ordered a new shifter and hope this is the the problem. You cannot take the shifter apart due to tamper-proof nuts on the top, why Yamaha puts those on a shifter?? I have no clue. Take your boot off, you'll see what I mean. I'm still not 100% sold on the shifter being the problem. When the Rhinos cold, it will shift pretty good, when it gets hot, no shifty. I'm going to change the oil tomorrow. Also the shitfer mount in mine flexes just enough to throw it off too.......Vise-Grips are now looking good............ RZR-S................ |

| alright.I'm a Dumb-ass. After studying this shifter crap for no-less than 30 hours.I came up with this 6-min soloution. Why I had to do this??? Still not sure, but it works like a champ!!!!!!!!!!! Got out the old trusy Dremel again......Zip-Zip= more throw on reverse and low........I've still got the 131.00 shifter on order because I'm convinced thats my problem, but for future reference................. before- after a little slotting- |

| Damn, that was some good thinking. Do you think it will continue to work even after its warmed up? Didn't you say it got worse as it warmed up? | |

| Yeah LT, it seemed to not work before the "grind" when it warmed-up. The problem with the adjusting was this, you could adjust it to go into reverse, lenthen the rod,and then it would not go into low, you could shorten the rod, you got low but no reverse. I could find a "grinding" medium between the two, but when it got warm, neither??? So that being said, I'm gonna change the oil because it points somewhat to that, but then again, at this point it's still a mystery. Maybe the shifter will solve it because it's movement is not ,consistent at all, one time it looks good, the next it dosn't, Damnest thing I've ever seen. I've worked on this stuff all my life and this one's a real head-scratcher. |

| Let us know how that works out. Very curious that it would work one minute and not the next. I don't know what it looks like at the inside of the tranny where the gear selector feeds in. Maybe something in there is loose and thus not engaging every time. I hope its the shifter though. Seems like it would be a much easier fix. | |
