| Im going to be in the market for a new truck. We got a 4 seat sxs now. So of course we now need a crew cab truck. Whats your opinion on both?! Take in mine that the only time I haul anything is when we put the mav on are trailer and going riding. It would also be a daily driver | |

| My 2012 gas F-150 has plenty of guts to pull my XP and my Dad's Ranger to Taylor Park in Colorado and average 12 mpg. through the mountains. I pull an 18ft. auto hauler. Ford engine and tranny braking is really nice too. | |

| If all you are going to haul is one four seater a diesel is way overkill. Even a half ton is overkill. My wife's Highlander can handle that job. But if you are eventually going to get a toy hauler camper to haul your buggy in a diesel is in order. | |

| I have to agree with these guys. If the only thing you are going to haul is the buggy then a gas truck is fine. | |

| X4! And unless you find a good deal on a diesel, and you wont. It takes a long time to make up the difference in price vs fuel savings too.
Having said that. I would never go back to a gas truck over a diesel for several reasons and towing is one of the main ones.

| I don't plan to buy brand new. Im leaning towards a diesel since you never know! I may be hauling a toyhauler in a few years. Plus you can do work and up the mpg's and a diesel engine last a lot longer normally than a gasser! | |

| If you go Ford and are buying used. the 6.0 and 6.4 diesels had problems But if they have had the EGR delete done, the regeneration turned off and the PDF filter removed and on the 6.4 a coolant filter added then they should be good to go. The 7.3 if you can find one is the best diesel ford had IMHO. A diesel is more expensive to fix maintain and feed than a gas engine. But for towing you cant beat the diesel. | |

| Time you figure in the higher cost of fuel the difference in mileage is about the same. Also the maintenance cost are higher | |

| Yep, like everyone else...Gas if this is the only thing you haul. My daily driver is a '10 F150 with a 5.4 and I have no problem pulling a 30' enclosed trailer with 2 SXSs & 2 4-wheelers plus all our gear. I set the cruse at 80mph and forget it. I average 14.9mpg not hauling and 10.2mpg with the trailer loaded running 80mph. The newer F150s with the V-6 Eco-boost will do much better on mpg.

| If you keep a vehicle for more than 5 years and you plan on hauling heavier loads in the next year, you should consider a diesel. If not, look at the half tons out there. Better MPG, except when towing a load. Even when I tow my 14 foot utility trailer with fire wood or the RZRS on it, I like the Diesel better. Like Scott said about the Ford diesel, stay away from the bad ones. On the older Duramax's, 2004.5 and newer only. 2004 and down had internal injectors in the heads. Dodge, I don't know much about them. | |

| I hope everyone with the Eco Boost F150 is getting better mileage than my work truck. The best I've seen is 14 on a trip to Pa and it averages 8.5 to 9 everyday driving! | |

You would have to haul something with a diesel to understand. One thing is pulling up hills. My F-350 never hits passing gear when pulling up hills. I set cruse at 79 and it stays at 79. No in and out of passing gear.

| Nothing better than a diesel pulling anything just higher costs all around but better resale and much more confidence inspiring especially if it is the new 6.7 ford diesel can't beat it. | |

I bought my diesel when I was in the same boat as you and diesel was cheaper than gas. I had a company car up until when I changed jobs recently so my truck was pure for towing/pleasure. In 7 years I have put about 45K miles on it. However, I say 30-35,000 of that was towing a trailer so the diesel worked out for me. I'll second above, unless you plan to do a lot of towing, I'd buy a gasser. Much cheaper to maintain and unless you put high miles on it you will not really see the fuel economy benefits of the older diesels to gassers. I just had buddy tow out to Colorado for a week of wheeling towing about 6,5000 lbs in one of the new Ford Ecoboosts and he said he got an average of 12mpg so that is pretty darn good in my opinion.
