RUSSELL COUNTY, VA (WJHL) -
Russell County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a Castlewood, Va. man after he almost hit a deputy with his vehicle while speeding away from a traffic stop.

According to a RCSO news release, a deputy responded to a call in Castlewood and stopped Raymond Clyde Turner's vehicle.

Following the traffic stop, the deputy was approaching the vehicle and Turner reportedly pulled out at a high rate of speed and almost hit the deputy.

Turner was arrested and charged with eluding, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of ammunition by a felon, DUI and attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.

He was taken to the Southwest Regional Jail in Abingdon, Va., where he was being held without bond.

Turner was scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday.

According to the release, RCSO is conducting the ongoing investigation.

Two people face multiple charges in Russell County, Virginia, after the report of stolen truck batteries earlier this week and a pursuit on Thursday morning.
The Sheriff’s Office arrested Christopher Mahon, 39, and a 17-year-old juvenile on charges of grand larceny, larceny with intent to sell and conspiracy.
The juvenile, who deputies said was driving the vehicle in the pursuit, was also charged with felony elude, felony abduction, felony unauthorized use of a vehicle and numerous other traffic violations.
Deputies said two male subjects exited a vehicle and stole 4 heavy duty truck batteries from a semi truck on Jan. 25 on Moccasin Valley Road. Thursday morning, deputies received a tip from a citizen who said they spotted a vehicle, similar to the one reported on Jan. 25.
Deputies found the vehicle in Washington County and attempted to make a stop, but the vehicle sped away. It was finally stopped on U.S. Highway 19.
Mahon and the juvenile were taken into custody and the property belonging to the victim was recovered.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible, deputies said.
