Multipurpose , Not Sport..... Well , i guess someone has to haul the deer back at hunting season....
I just don't think Honda is interested in sport machines. And why would they , with all they make in motor cycles and four wheelers. Hell , just there car industry , they could buy Polaris and Can Am out of pocket change...

Nope. Just a major step forward in multipurpose sport/utes. They're listening to their existing customers and responding. Added hi/low range, turf mode, 3sp > 6sp, 700cc single > 1000cc twin, new cage, EPS, etc. If this thing isn't the size of a bus, and priced as reasonably as the 700 is in comparison, it'll do well, IMO.
Some of us just aren't interested in $20k high-speed, unreliable, single purpose toys... My "sled" is still going strong, without a single major mechanical failure, as I've watched many/ most of you guys invest $20-25k each (including mods) in at least two, three, maybe more, machines since - and then go beat the crap out of them and trade them in. Heck, some of you guys have likely spent more money buying extended warranties alone (wise investment for a PoPo) than I have sunk in my old Rhino. Some of us are unwilling/unable to pay that much to play...
Meanwhile, it's fun to watch you anxiously watch the product releases from the Japanese manufacturers - if you were so satisfied with what you have, why would you care?
It's more like what the Rhino should've become, instead of turning into the Ranger-sized Viking. It should give Yamaha and Kawasaki fits...

hey this thing beats a Yamaha or a ranger imo, has some cool features all the other companies could use. if you need a pig feeder or working utv this thing is cool.

Agree, Gunny. If it is as reliable as most Honda machines, it should be a hit. I'd rather have a 1000-5 than a Ranger, T4, or Viking, based on this info alone. Very versatile... Which is what I need. My Rhino stays loaded with tools most of the time - my garden and my mailbox are about 1/8 mile from the house, and those chores are commonly combined, in addition to hauling trailer loads of firewood, etc. It's my redneck retirees golf cart - and playing on the trail is secondary.
The Pioneer 700 is no bigger than my Rhino. Hopefully this thing is no bigger than a T4.

I was joking. However, it does have some nice features. If I was in the market for a utility machine this would be a good choice.

It would be great if they came out with some compitition for polaris, not that I would change brands, but some customer service & reliability would be nice!!!.......maybe it might cure POLARIS's ( it's normal, just keep driving it ) answer to all problems...
But the compitition is going to have to do better than they are ...

What I see is the base power train for a light weight sport, hopefully they will do it. Paddle shift would be fun and the self leveling rear shocks on 5 seat is pretty neat. Think Honda did open some eyes with this one. Normally they may jump 50cc or maybe even 100 bit to jump all the way to a twin 1000 is a good start for them!

I am guessing they will jump into the sport market.

I like it. Its not a sport machine, But the geared transmission with paddle shifters. 12" of ground clearance and a 1 ton towing capicity, 1000cc engine. Over all it looks like a great utility machine. That engine and that drivetrain in a sport frame and body, with some good suspension could and probably would rock..
As far as need for a utility. I don't know I've got a riding mower, 4wd tractor and a truck lol. For me I've just never really seen the need for a Utility SxS. If I need to haul wood, move a trailer or something I just use the tractor. RZR works great for running to the barn, creek and mailbox. Back in the ATV days I did use it for spraying the fence line, but now I just pull my sprayer with the mower. Since the RZR is a bit overkill for that lol.

Yeah, it's way overkill, but I was using my Swisher 60" mower to mow around my pond yesterday pulling it with my RZR. It didn't look so goofy several years ago when I was doing that chore with the Rhino. Sometimes I wish I still had one to do those kinds of chores with.

I take my Rhino into the woods in places my truck won't fit, and choose it over the tractor for lighter loads because it is so much quicker. Often I'm using the loader on the tractor to load the trailer behind the Rhino....

Just bringing a bit more info back on the Pioneer 1000, as we wait. Apparently it's 77hp, and rumor has it that it is governed to 62mph. But, IMO, the transmission is potentially the true game changer. No belts, no torque converter, so all that power gets transmitted to the wheels with very high efficiency, in comparison to previous transmission designs. It is essentially an automatic (or manual, if desired) shifting gear-drive transmission. Compact, light weight, more efficient, and cooler running than any other type of automatic transmission in use. (Most figure at least a 10% power loss for belt drives, and 15-20% for truue hydrostatic drives.) This video describes it well.
This video shows/describes its first application to their ATVs, though in a 5 speed (instead of 6 speed) tranny. Appears to crawl pretty well, and the ability to manually control gearshifts (even in automatic mode) adds a totally new dimension to riding, compared to CVT. Total control of gearing for acceleration or engine braking.
Should (when?) they put it in a sport machine, it could leave Polaris scrambling, since they don't have the larger R&D of Honda's racing teams and motorcycle production lines...
BTW, their 2016 Africa bike with this basic engine/tranny setup is reportedly 120hp, so the potential is there...
