I did not read anything about a low range , just a 5 speed. and 4WD With out low range it will be useless for our type of riding though... I had plenty of 4 speed cars in my younger days. Don't know if i want to be in and out with a clutch at windrock and brimstone. I think this will be a big hit in the sand dunes....

It depends on gearing and torque. First gear can be plenty low if the gearing is right and the motor has plenty of torque. Take my new little Rancher 350 for instance, wide open throttle is only about 5 mph in first gear.
Yamaha also has a dealer installed Rekluse clutch available. That makes it into basically a clutchless manual. It is roughly $1500 but you don't have to buy doors, a roof, or a skid plate like you have to with the RZR.

I like it. It looks aggressive and hopefully alot better quality. I would want to drive one to see how the shifting would be. My only dislike is the bed has no tailgate or back. But that could be easily fixed. It will be on my list when the time comes to replace my rzr. It's also the first non Polaris machine the wife has liked.

I really like it overall. I don't think the manual will be a problem in the woods. This thing revs to over 10k RPM. Each gear should have a pretty wide range. Your not going to be hunting gears constantly and the idea of not having to stop to go from low to high is awesome. I would much rather just grab a higher or lower gear on the fly. I am kind of wondering how 1st gear is though. It would need to be pretty low. If not, having to constantly feather the clutch in first for crawling could be a pain. How that first gear behaves is also going to factor in when upgrading the stock 27" tires. Other concern would be what looks like zero protection from mud and water. I can't wait to see how they hold up on the trails.

Read up on the rekluse clutch kit. It will allow you to take off without the clutch pedal, stop without the clutch pedal and shift gears without it.

The rekluse clutch is $800 for the parts, if you are fairly mechanically inclined, its not bad to do. They have mud extentions for the front and rear. $249.

Yeah I understand that part from what I gather it works like a Honda quad with electronic shift once you add the rekluse clutch kit. I would rather have the manual with the clutch as long as the gearing in 1st is low enough. I don't really see the point in a manual with out a clutch pedal. The whole fun of it is to be able to dump the clutch and break the rear loose at will that and power shifting. I don't know I'd have to drive one with the kit installed to see. BTW i have no problem with a manual, I hate the cvt in a rzr. I dont like depending on the belt and don't in joy adjusting the clutch anytime weight or tires change much just to keep it in the power band. All I ever had before my first rzr was motor cycles and quads with manuals. Heck my wife's car is a manual my duramax and rzr is the only automatics we have.

I think alot of people are not going to be happy when they find out it has torque limiters. ....no "dumping " the clutch. Here's a pic of the mud extentions

they rev it and dump the clutch for a 4x4 launch at around 45 sec

And to think you can buy a bolt on turbo that does not void the warranty giving you 155 HP I also like the fact that with the Rekluse clutch you can still manually clutch if you want to I like the Blue one. One concern though is they have an alternator kit; is it necessary to have for a stereo and a winch and possibly small light bar.

It'll crawl. Those boat-sides are not for sand............... Weller dyno'd a stock one today and said it puts out more H.P. than a XP1K to the wheels......

On the yamha site it says the alternator kit is required for the lightbars. I don't know why they would not put more electrical capacity for accessories. That's not a cheap bolt on kit.

Yamaha wants to get some of that research and development money back...
