| On the right side(passenger) there is an intake fan and a hose vented toward the back. What is the purpose of this fan?? Its completely open and would easily allow all the elements during a ride in. Just curious as to what its for? | |

RICK, AWESOME PICS, Thanks for posting them.....I am going to post my pics in this same post. To update........what was wrong with my RHINO.............
On the right side of the motor(passenger side)....there is this fan that runs when the motor revs(for what purpose I have no clue) anyways......the vent tube that goes out the back under the bed, the bolt that holds it in wiht a bushing......the bushing came out and the tube was up against the tailpipe, melting, and we kept smelling burnt plastic and seeing smoke. Found it today and fixed it. ALL IS GOOD..........AWESOME PICS Rick and AWESOME RIDE.....thanks for leading us and showing us around. That places is AWESOME and I can't wait to go back again. Tyler is ok after the quad flip down the hill......cracked plastic and his pride was hurt!
that fan is too cool the muffler some people take them off, because when u sink them in a deep water or mud hole and that fan housing fills up it boggs your moter down!!!
who all has taken them off??? whats some opions on taking them off?? _________________ 07 rhino 660 camo |

| I just read your post in the other forum, thank you for the info. I was wondering about that. When I was in some mud yesterday....the motor bogged down and it wasnt the belt or the intake with water. Question.......mcb......whenever you take it off what do you use to cover the hole in the motor???
Meant to also ask......so that fan and the vent going back is only used to blow air onto the muffler?? The reason I'm assumign is to not have so much heat coming in from between the bed and cab?

| Yep, that fan will kill the motor in deep water, took mine off and greased it up well. Thinking of putting a electric pusher fan back there with a toggle switch on the dash if it becomes a problem. | |

What did you use to cover the area where you removed the fan from, do they make a cover or what?

| It is hooked to the crank. You just take the impeller off. It doesn't leave a hole. | |

| I took mine off . The only draw back is the lack of air blowing over the top of the exhaust Silencer melted the silencer gromets... On mine anyway. |

| Yea it turned the "egg" shaped rubber dampiner into chalk...I had a crazy smell going on to while it was doing it...Had to make a new one out of Aluminum. |

| I'm thinking of some kind of plug or cap to close it off when your planning to go "submarining" Its a tight spot between the tank and the inlet, but theres a decent lip on the fan housing to attach something to. I'll find or make something sooner or later. |

| huh - never knew that either - thanks for sharing.... was looking at it when I was working on my snorkelt he other day and was wondering what it was for.
I will say I never realized that an exhaust pipe needed a fan to blow on it to keep it cool.
IS VENT STILL NECESSARY WITH OTHER NON OEM PIPES... (ie. I just purchased an alba exhaust system)

| alright - now i need to know...
after mudding on Friday - that lil fan bogged me down toward the end of the run - never stalled thank god - but it has to go...
So - after taking it off - is anyone covering it back up?
I would also assume that my new pipe has to run cooler than oem pipe due to more unrestricted airflow...am I wrong?
Is this fan necessary? | |

have you taken it off? how was it - what did you find? any pointers would be greatly appreciated. a rubber grommet on the pipe hanger shouldnt be that bad - but what happened? I am assuming racing is what you are talking about referring to "riding" - if so - why did you take it off? just curious. Love to know all angles before i make a mod. thanks in advance.

| Any follow-ups on taking the fan off? I play in many WV creeks and mud holes and would like to remove mine but am wondering if any negatives...
What is involved with removing? Is it just the bolts on the outside?

| Have had mine off for over 3 months no problems. all it does is blow air back on your muffler. does not in anyway hurt your motor or anything else. it is held on by i think 3-4 can't remember which but its not hard to take off. if you will look on the passenger side and watch the vent tube it is open at the end toward the muffler you can shine a light feom the back of Rhino and see it good. |
