| Probably the cheapest way would be for 1 vehicle with 4 people to haul 2 sidex sides. A trailer capable of hauling 2 would be needed.Couples will have their own hotel, but singles could split one. If we went to Taylor park above, 2 couples could share a 2 bedroom cabin. There are options. I thought If Foxfire could haul 8 it would be worth it, I dont know about hauling 5?
Let me give you a few numbers to think about. In 2007, 3 of us with ATV's took a Chevy Silverado extended cab and hauled the 3 Quads to Moab for 4 nights and then Buena Vista Colorado for 4 nights. We stayed over night on the way there and back. We stayed in Best Western in Colorado and Sleep Inn in Utah. At $2.50 a gallon gas it cost us 3, $635.00 each. A total of $2000.00 for fuel and Lodging.
I would say ballpark you are looking at about $1000.00 a couple for fuel and lodging for 7 days.

| Marty , I would never doubt your word. but all i can say is what i know of . and that is when we went to Middlesbero Kentucky. I realize gas was quite a bit more back then. but i had to fill the Yukon going down and comeing back , and gas for the Rhino , and food and the hotel bill. That weekend trip for me was not much cheeper than what you are saying. atleast for me. So , i just dont see how a 7 day Event across country will be $635 dollars... For me i dont care about the cost. for me its just the 2000 mile drive.... :D Chris..... | |

| A semi with a 53' trailer could haul more than 5 Rhino's. We would have to find a open trailer, not an enclosed semi trailer, than they would fit side by side, average Rhino is 54-58" wide....trailer being 53', you should be able to fit 11 Rhino's on there, possibly 12 if we have a few stock ones. | |

| I say 5 Rhino's since the length of a Rhino exceeds the Overwidth requirement and can not be turned sideways in most states. A stock Rzr is OK to turn sideways but a Rhino never is. Many Rzr owners violate this rule by turning Rzr's with bumpers sideways but you do not want to get caught and measured. My understanding is 102" is the magic width -- anything over can require a permit. My avatar is a 20' trailer. If I could have turned the Rhino sideways I would have just used a 12' trailer to fit the same Rhino and 2 ATV's. Overwidth Permits: States may grant special use permits to motor vehicles, including manufactured housing, that exceed the Federal 102 inch width limitation. http://ops.fhwa.dot.gov/freight/sw/permit_report.htm | |

| Well Bobby....that's how I'm wanting to do it....load them all from the side....So, what are the over all lengths of the machines that ride with us....Rhino, RZR and I have the Prowlers covered, think I can still read a tape measure ....I saw a pic of a trailer load (semi) of machines some where...a blue Pete was pulling them, but I just don't remember where I saw it Anyway I'll have this all worked out by the end of the day so that we can move forward

| Yep that's the pic Bobby......but I thought he had them turned the other way.The RZR is 100% on the money...102" is the legal width without a permit. I can get my Prowler down to 102" if I remove the front bumper and the dump box....both of which are a no brainier....take about 15 to 20 minutes. Could someone measure a Rhino leaving off the bumper and the box, please? Now for the legal aspect of all this.....I can only permit a load if: the item that is loaded can not be shrunk in anyway. So lets say that I have a chunk of steel that is 9' 6" square....this can be permitted. Say I have a CNC machine ....9' 6" by 15'....if there is some small part on this machine on the 9' 6" side that could be removed and would then make the machine 8' 6" then you could not permit the machine for 9' 6". Remove the part that can be removed and get the width down to 8' 6". So if we can get a Rhino's length down close to 102" then we are good to go on width. I am calculating Rhino's @ the same width as the Prowler...60" being that some of you guys have off set wheels, wheel spacers....ect. Bobby....what about the RZR's that might go...wider than the 50" at stock?? Looks like I can get 9 machines on the trailer without building a little over hang off the front and or rear of the trailer ( which wouldn't be all that big of a deal to do, but it may only give us one more machine) .. that would be 7 @ 60" and 2 @ 50" for an example. Now to work on the $$$$$'s

| The Rzr is only 102" if it has no bumpers installed. The normal Rzr I ride with is 108" long and maybe 53" wide. You would need to drop the bumpers to legally fit the 102" on a Rzr.
The Rhino's are much harder to fit depending on accessories. My Rhino has a Rock Hard 4x4 cage and would be very difficult to go below 110" -- it would take hours. I doubt a Rhino can go to the 102" even stock -- if bed and front bumper is removed it would be close to the 102"(114" stock).
I think the key thing Foxfire is what would it cost to tie up your truck and trailer for 10 or so days (depending on trip) and the fuel to go 2500 miles (depending) roundtrip. Once you have that number you just divide by the number of machines.
I shoukd probably stay out of the conversation since I will not be able to go. My trip to Utah cost approx $2000 last year and I really do not need to do that each year. I was just adding input since I was part of the months it took to work this out for my local club.
For what it's worth my trip to Utah was great. Alot of fun with great people.

| Looks like $650.00 per machine will be about the best I could do to Buena Vista, Co.....if fuel stays somewhere around where it is now. I'll have around 3,100 miles in it when it's all said and done. | |

| Well, 8 plus mine. I'd have a hard time hauling all those SxS out there and not bring mine along And just for the record, for a move with that many miles I would usually charge around $7,000.00, so I tried to do the best I could for The Southern SXS Riders! | |

Give us an Idea Foxfire? From Louisville Kentucky. Would that be a good pick up point for you? Maybe we could leave our trailers at Big-R's, and carpool from there. Big-R will have a place for you to park....

Chris.....
Ok Chris, I will break it down for you. If I had a 16-20 foot trailer, I could take my Explorer which would get 13 MPG towing 2 UTV's and 2 couples. It's 1400 miles from my house to Buena Vista Colorado. Thats 200 gallons of gas (round trip) at $1.50 a gallon...$300.00. Now each couple will need a hotel room going out and coming back...thats $150 per couple. The 2 bedroom cabins out there can be split by 2 couples at $100.00 a night for 7 nights..........thats $350.00 a couple. Split the gas at $150.00 a couple and you get a total of $650.00 a couple for lodging and fuel for the entire 9 day trip plus food and spending money. I understand what your saying marty. :D but 2 things. me and Ronnie were just talking on the phone tonight. and we both agree we spend 5 or 600 on every trip we go on. whitch is no big deal. but you said you got 1400 miles. keep in mind. i got 5 or 600 more miles to go than you do.... i guess that what i ment.. :D

| Now take that 650.00 and triple it and you might be in the ballpark to actual gross anmount spent at your return home and thats if everything goes 100% with no breakdowns or unexpected stuff. | |

| One of your possible destinations you mentioned is the Black Hills UTV Rally. While I can't do much on that end to help, the rally is just 20 miles from home and I could help get you set up with places to stay and places to avoid. Just an option for you if that would help.

| i would love to go out west and i could afford the trip but that would be the only riding trip i would be able to go on all year. so i would rather make several trips in the year to places that are closer to home. like wagon wheel and Everts and a few others places that are around 2 hrs from home. | |
