| Hey folks Andrew Willingham here, from Jasper, Georgia contemplating on buying a pre-owned 2010 Polaris RZR-S. On other forums they're telling me I should be very careful because these things get abused. Well, it's only 3 months old and has only a few scratches (typical I'm sure being a woods vehicle) but it has larger tires installed, a snorkel system, and a drain hole setup for the CVT housing.
Looking at the unit it looks to be in excellent shape, it seems to run great and has no issues with power. I was told by the owner that the snorkel system was done mainly because of the poorly designed air filtration system that Polaris engineered. And the the drain plug was made so he wouldn't have to over rev the engine to push the water out of the housing.
Just being skeptical, I'm trying to gather as much information as I can.
I would be picking up the 2010 RZR-S for $12,000 and it has roughly 35 hours and has 2 months of factory warranty left. I've priced a new one and it is out of my budget by a good bit.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

| Hey Andrew, I am sure you will get many replies on your questions. The many thing that stands out to me is $12,000. You can buy a new machine for just under $13,000 if you look in the right places. Also, when someone installs a snorkel systems it usually means they are running in deep water or worse, MUD. Mud is harder on these machines they anything else. However, it is only three months old and should be in good shape. I would want to know why the person is selling after only a short time owning. Welcome to the site | |

| Be carefull and take it for a good, long ride. If you feel any douts go new or keep looking. Better yet, if you like it, offer $1,000 less. I would. | |

| I don't have to pay taxes on a privately owned unit, but I do on a new one. So that puts me at nearly $14,000 | |

| .........snorkle and drain plug in the CVT housing usually an indication of "Going Deep". I'd buy a new one. | |

| sounds like a good machine but ritchie in athens would be the best.i wouldn,t buy the one u are talking about and it seems like drain plug and snorkel and very oversized tires would be an indication of deeeeep mud bogging | |

| Welcome. You never know what you get with a used machine. I personally don't ride deep stuff, but have considered snorkeling the airbox for the "cleaner air" mentality. I have not done it yet. I am with these guys. If they have snorkeled and did a drain plug it sends a red flag up to me. If you are willing to roll the dice, offer a lower price and if they take it, use the extra money to buy an extended warrany while it is still under factory warranty. I would make sure the dealer will not screw you. Snorkels may have already voided the warranty..........all depends on which dealer you take it to. One thing I would do........ask them to pull the clutch cover off for you. If you see it is clean and stuff, I would say go for it. If there is mud and crap you can bet this guy tried to make a submarine out of it. Good luck and keep us posted. | |

| Out of state buyers are required to pay taxes to their home state, unless they live in a tax free state. GA happens to not be tax free, and buying new from a dealer I would be required to pay sales tax. If I was to purchase there and not pay taxes, by law I would have sign a out-of-state tax exempt form. Some people get away with it, but 90% of the time it catches up with them. In GA you don't have to pay sales tax when completing a private party sale. If he was to just hand me the title, and register the warranty with Polaris and forget about the legal paper work it'd be grand. But my bet would be he would cover his tail by keeping his business legal.
You may have to pay sales tax sooner than you think....
I've had this experience already on 2 ATVs and a trailer.

| Andrew,
I know many of are members have bought their machines there and did not pay any tax.
To be honest. I think $12,000 is too high for a used RZRS. Keep looking and you will find a better deal.

I would say it would be much less than that depending on the state you live and how active they are looking for things like that. If you get a title with your machine ( which is required if you finance the machine) and dont pay tax in your state, they possibly can catch up with you on it. The only way to be sure they dont is to pay cash ( or credit card) and only get a certificate of origin with the machine, and not a title.

| id just buy the used one and not worry about it. But if buying new its best to do it at a local dealer and pay the tax, then if it needs warranty you got someone local that knows you. | |

What dealer did you purchase your from and who did you deal with? Last 3 vehicles i have bought were in the state of Ohio. Paid no taxes. I checked into a deal in the state of Tennessee, and was told there would be no taxes. How did Georgia ever find out you bought one?

How did Georgia ever find out you bought one? I was told the exact same thing Andrew was. They will catch up to you, in Ga. anyway, sooner or later. That was another reason, along with local support, I bought local. A sales-Tax audit in the selling state is all it takes. Like most governmental agencies, things roll slow, so it may take a year or two. I guess Ga. watches that kind of stuff a little closer than other states..

| Andrew I bought a used 09 for from a dealer but it only had 7 miles on it. Sounds like this one should have 200-400 miles right? IMO buy the used one. It would be different if it had 1500-3000 miles. You should know if you have any problems within two months. I wish I could say I have seen alot of 300 mile 2010s out there for sale but thats just not the case. Go for it man. | |

| One other tax option, that I do, I buy under my brothers name and use the farm exemption (no tax) number he has. If you have a relative or a friend that has a farm, they can be exempt. | |
