there were a few of us up there 2-28 and we saw the turkeys and elk up at the flats

The one on the left is just a baby ... the one on the right is getting to be a nice sized bull for an east coast elk.

The elk reintroduction was started in december of 2000 with a planned release of 425 elk over the first 2 years in a 670,000 designated elk zone, 75% cows, 25% bulls. As of 2009, estimated herd size was 300 when plans were announced for elk season with 5 permits to be issued. 4 elk were shot the first day and most of them before 12 pm. All permit holders successfully filled thier tags.

News release announcement of another hunt with permits to be issued for 2010 were revealed the first of March. Targeted herd size of 1400 -1600 elk are projected to be maintained by 2016.




This is a Tennessee elk and a young one

when i was planning this ride and the many times before i have not seen elk up there. I have seen them at royal blue but not on coal creek it was a nice site to see for sure I am glad most of the group got to see them
