Booby Traps Found on Trails Empty
PostSubject: Booby Traps Found on Trails   Booby Traps Found on Trails EmptyMon May 10, 2010 3:47 pm

I predicted quite some time ago that this would happen more often as the fringe eco-Nazis scaled up their efforts but never figured they’d do their own trails!

Outlaws beware!!!

I just talked to a friend of mine who used to live near Bakersfield, California, about this. He was very critical of both the BLM and the USFS, who made a bunch of closures over 10 years ago, but only began to implement them in the last couple of years. This is a classic mistake some federal land managers make and it almost always results in confusion, controversy and general mayhem. My friend confirmed that there is some illegal motorized use on the Pacific Crest Trail, and I'm not going to defend any of that, but such can NEVER be an excuse for people putting trip wires across trails. This sort of thing is just as illegal as riding on a closed trail, if not more so, becuase it endangers the lives of all trail users. I pray cooler heads prevail before someone is seriously injured.

They need to set-up some game-cameras and catch these knuckle-heads.

Pacific Crest Trail Reopened After Booby Traps Found

Julie Flannery - ABC23 Kern Mountain Reporter

POSTED: 4:58 pm PDT May 12, 2010
UPDATED: 9:34 am PDT May 13, 2010

TEHACHAPI, Calif. -- Illegal off-roaders have been a problem for property owners around the Pacific Crest Trail for awhile now, and in November 2009, ABC23 first reported the extreme lengths one unknown property owner was going to in order to deter the riders. But law enforcement and other property owners said it went too far.

Mesonika Piecuch is a property owner and a part of the ORV Watch Kern County and said, "This person who did this had to be extremely disturbed. They spent a lot of time burying them into the ground such that someone can puncture their foot, a horse can puncture its hoof, someone could get seriously injured.”
