| just joined the site after using it as a reference for the last couple of weeks. awesome place! i bought an 09 450 new in feb. i may have 10hrs on it now, anyway i heard something rattling on the frame only to discover the motor mount bolt broke off inside the motor on the passanger rear. has this happened to you all? any ideas? it is still under warranty, but the shop is a month behind(warranty exp.8-17-10). i thought about trying to drill it out after removing the fuel tank and getting a piece of all thread and nutting both sides, with maybe an extra rubber on the outside of the motor. anyway thanks!

| Welcome Jason. Sorry about the bad luck. No, i have never heard of that happening to any Rhino. If it is still under warranty i would not mess with it until they fix it. Try to find another dealer to do it quicker for you. | |

| they are kind of giving the the run around. i bought it from abernathys in union city tn. really good prices, really good. anyway there are only 2 other yamaha dealers within an hour or so from me. i would like to fix it myself becasue i am not sure how they will go about getting to it(tight spot). i just hate for them to pull a bunch of stuff and me have things start to losen up again. thanks for the welcome and the quick reply! | |

| some of the dealers around here do not like to work on stuff they sell, the dealer in my town asked me when i called yesterday why did i not buy from them, i said they were much higher. then he asked me how that was working out for me now. so i tried to keep my cool, kind of hard. the place i bought it from said it would probably be a month. the other two dealers are from 10 days to 3 weeks behind i was told. its just a pain to get to, shouldnt be that hard of a fix. | |

| Sorry to hear of your troubles. Our local Yamaha dealer is the same way. Everything he sales is MSRP. If you didn't buy it from him don't even go there to look for parts. He will tell you he needs to save his parts for his customers. Our local Honda dealer is just the opposite!!! | |

I would not touch it. If anything goes wrong with the threads in that block, they could hang you out. As long as it was reported before the warranty expired, they will fix it. - jasonch wrote:

You can understand a dealers frustration.............but, a smart dealer will take care of it for you. just might get him a future sale.

| its the bolt, broke off clean with the motor, my guess it worked itself loose then broke. i can take a pic of it, all you will see is a mount without a bolt through it. | |

| is it the bolt that mounts the motor mount to the frame or the bolts that mount the mounts to the motor? if the 450 mounts the same as the 660 there are 4 big bolts that mount the motor mounts (yamaha calls them dampers) to the frame then the dampers mount to the bracket that mount to the motor. if its broke in the motor use a set of EZ out to remove it. but if is the bolt that mounts it to the frame order a new one. http://www.brokentap.com/easy-outs.htmli hope that makes sence. | |

| That looks like it could be a real bear to get at it to remove the bolt. Likely have to unbolt the entire engine/tranny and lift it....
Do you know if the bolt broke inside the flange, where it will have to be drilled and something like an "EZ-Out" used. Or, is enough sticking out to get hold of...
Either way, IMO, I'd have a dealer do it under warranty... certainly if it is broken inside the flange.

| there is about a 1/4 inch sticking out maybe. i can take and move the motor to the left about a half inch with a pry bar(being real easy of course). so i am going to try and pry it and have a buddy put some vice grips on there and try that. i am just worried that it may be seized in there. | |

| Hope your removing the driveshafts before prying the motor. Could damage the oil seals. | |

| the 450 mounts are nothing like the 660 so im no help there. if the bolt is sticking out use a small pipe wrench on it and some PB blaster/WD-40. | |

| If you have to go the ease out way here is a chart to use for ease outs and recommended drill sizes. But you need to get a center drill or a good punch for a good centered starting point for your drill. I always step up to the recommended drill size with at least two smaller sizes. Now if the bolt goes all the way through do the above on the back side first. The reason is, going in the back side could unscrew whats left of the bolt out the opposite side. The heat from the drill could also help too. Good luck. http://www.nolansupply.com/bysubcategory.asp?category=Fasteners&supercategory=Screw+and+Bolt+Extractors&subcategory=Cleveland+Twist+Drill+Ezy-Out%26%23174;+Screw+Extractors%26nbsp;&type=False&specs=True Cleveland Twist Drill Ezy-Out® Screw Extractors Contact Us for technical assistance or with questions about this product.
