As a non-profit, with correct accounting, a have a board of directors that makes $ and future existince decisions
just let me know - I will abstain from any vote until there is a clear decision on where things are heading with this group. You know we already did this, this started as a "CLUB" then we all decided WHOA!!! WE DONT WANT ALL THE LIABILITY CRAP AND HEADACHES THAT GO WITH IT!!!! We disbanded the club and re-started as a friends rider and forum group. We should keep that dog dead and buried and continue as we decided to do.

just let me know - I will abstain from any vote until there is a clear decision on where things are heading with this group. we seem to be strattling the fence here.it really doesnt matter to me which way we go.i am just bringing it up to keep down future problems.with the riders selling products on the forum ,it needs to be done correctly or it will cause a big problem in the future. there is wording all over the forum about CLUB AND OFFICAL RIDES ect thats needs to be edited. these post were made to try and make it easier on everybody and NOT on slamming anybody IMO if we r going to make money selling t shirts and hats ect then it needs to be handled in a professional matter and legally and there needs to be several people involved to keep the bull shit away!! im not saying that its being done wrong now ,there has already been problems in the past.every body knows how issues can arise. as far as a board ,several people have given nick hell about stuff in the past, imo it would be better if there were more than just one trying to make decisions.so people wouldnt just come down on the pimp. as far as ending up like WR.I would say not.the problem with the WR CLUB was not ,having board it was having one that missed some major legal issues ,like forgetting to file the non profit tax forms for several years somebody else that know can say.but i think we can have a non profit orgization without being a club and having to have the insurance |

| Good discussion guys, Sounds like this thing is moving a little too fast for some, and too slow for others. Kind of like a large trail ride Bare with me cause I'm about to write a Editorial response here. First let me start with a story. I talked to my Dad yesterday. He is 83 years old. He has belonged to a Hunting club since 1959, called the Back Mountain Rod and Gun. Their is and always has been 16 members in the club since 1953. They aquired 1000 acres and built a crude camp back in 1953. In 1985, they sold 100 acres of select cut Timber for $20,000, and used it to build a nice new Camp. Last week they were approached by a large Energy company and offered $200,000 for the right to drill for gas and oil, and are to recieve 18% royalties on all gas and oil taken from the ground. They have a elected Board and legal club bylaws and covenants. My point is that 55 years ago, the original group of Good ole boys i'm sure never saw this coming, but laid the ground work to see that it was handled properly.Who knows where the SouthernSXSRiders will be or what they will be in 55 years, but the possibilities are really endless. This is an up and coming recreational activity that is under constant attack from those that want our rides parked This group can address this with action of it's own. Guys, Yamaha wants to give money away to groups now that are active in working toward trail access activities. Maybe someday the group will own 10,000 acres of riding area with a big clubhouse, a complete line of Merchandise, and it's own magazine. It is possible, but not without organization. Maybe someday this group will be to offroad activities and access rights, what the NRA is to gun rights today? Who knows, but one thing is for sure. We need Organization The Sierra Club has it, we don't There are alot of people out there that want it and would be more than glad to send in $50.00 a year in dues to an organization that takes the lead on these issues, as well as Corporations who will donate also. Bottom line is that some are dreamers, and some like the intimate cozy, small laid back atmosphere of a simple group. This discussion will go a long way into deciding just what we will become. Because of that, I URGE all members to voice their opinion on the subject now. Our future definately could be effected by the outcome. Who knows? Maybe someday people will talk about Gunrunner, Haystack, Wheels and the Pimp, like they talk about Jefferson, Adams, Franklin and Washington As for my Opinion, I'm going to reserve the right to think about it and voice it at a later date | |

| As for making money on hats, shirts, decals and all that I was under the impression these items were not for profit and just passed along at cost. You guys do what you wont to I myself am not interested in being a member of a club because of the pending liabilitys that could be leveled against its members. I bet Wheelin is not interested in heading it either as we have already had that conversation. So if a big old club is what you wont some of you guys who want it should be ready to step forward and run the show. I joiined the windrock club not knowing at the time about their IRS liability and will not rejoin again! | |

| i'm surprised by some of the opinions/responses... but, i like to hear them. as for the club or group... well, that depends on what YOU want. me, i want this club to grow... and really, when I think about the money aspect of it... i was thinking of ways to benefit our members... not in a 'fill your pockets full of money' kind of way either. for instance... --put on bbq rides, charging $5 a plate(I would rent a big cooker and slave over it for hours if it meant having some new members or making some money to throw in the pot)... i've done it before and it's actually fun.... of course, i would need a sober driver to get me home. -- have a yearly/monthly drawing(sell raffle tickets) for some kind of mod... -- make up some T-shirts that are aesthetically pleasing(no offense to anyone on this point, as we all have different opinions on what is pleasing to the eye) and offer them at 3 over cost... etc. --have one fundraiser dedicated to raising money for a charity we all agree on, or majority agree on. ***** take all the profits from these(excluding the charity fundraiser) and put it towards one big ride for all the members (paying for riding fees and food/drink)...or two big rides, even. that's what i was thinking. :afro: maybe i'm a dreamer... but, i know i'm willing to work hard to improve (for the sensitive members... :D by improve, i mean adding new members and growing) upon what we have. I can go on and on about this stuff... but, i think you all get the picture. Now that i've shared some of my thoughts about what we could do... I'll say this: If everyone wants to keep it the way it is... that's cool too. I'm just offering ways to help grow the club. :) |

| I have been reading this over the past few days As the founder of the Cumberland ATV Riders ( not a club, just a group of people who like to ride together and enjoy the same thing) The only thing i really see as a problem is some of the wording on some thing so on here. If you call it an Official Ride and someone gets hurt....someone is Officially responsible. We have alot of rides we post. For example= We just had a ride at Brimstone. I just posted Brimstone ride on April 19th. If anyone is going let me know. We DO NOT use the word Club in no way. Plus the Forum is Free and costs nothing. So is this one! The liability of a Club take the fun out of it IMO. Of course My opinion don't really matter on here. Just thought I would share it with You all. :afro: GunRunner, I don't blame you about the WR club IRS thing. I'm just glad I didn't send my renew $$$ in this year. :D |

| I just want to ride and enjoy reading forums and occassionalyl meet new people.
why not forgo the club, and start a business - you can then sponsor rides - not make em official and sell merchandise and grow.... basically rf.net
then this wouldnt be a discussion - its your business.

| Hell I am with gunny this club needs to grow, seems as though there is not a lot of posting going on here anymore. I for one would love to come to Kentucky to ride but its just too far. Hopefully we will have rides closer to other members like for instance the guys down in FL. I have a suggestion for the southern riders, how about the FireCracker Run that they have in Doles GA. Highlifter and Gorilla will be there, its like a mini mudnationals, I dont ride in the mud but its fun to watch. They have a lot of trails to ride!!!
Their website is creekbottomtrailrides.com
Sorry for the rant my ADD keeps kicking in!!

I don't have a dog in this race, but I understand and agree with you GunRunner. All the BS takes the fun out of it. |

| Ok Nick, Lets get this thing going. How bout starting a new thread in Supporting Riders only section with a Poll asking if we want a board or not. If it is decided that a board is to be formed. we will have nominations at a Chat session on a certain date and time. After nominations, we will have a vote for 5 board members in a poll format in our supporting riders section. The first Board after elected will decide who is Pres, Vice Pres., Sec., Treas, and a Trustee. I propose that if a Board is Elected, we will have yearly Elections (So we can throw the Bums out ) Any Other business can follow the Election of the Board. First things first. | |
