I really hope Yamaha comes out with something like that! Looks to be more in competition with the can-am than the rzr though...

Yep...... But I can see why they have been setting around not building new concept machines. They have been in court...

2012 looks to be an exciting year for SxSs - with the Wildcat, Polaris will do something, perhaps a new Can-Am and now this. Kawasaki needs to do something as well.
Best part - we the consumers benefit with choices from the competition.

I was told last night by a mechanic at my dealer that it would have a sport motor .... not utility.

Those pictures are at least 1-2 years old, saw them forever ago so I dont put much in the BS story. Yamaha just announced they are moving all production for US machines to griffin Ga where they now build the rhinos because its cheaper for them than building and importing the atvs.

I talked to our local dealer on Friday night, he mentioned Yamaha had promised a new sxs at the dealer show in June. He didn't have any details though. Time will tell.

It would be cool to have that setup with a V-Twin. I would give it a look.

Well, they've now successfully fought off most of their Rhino lawsuits, likely setting enough precedents to get them through the remainder...
Combine that with moving most of their ATV production to Newnan, and it looks like the timing is right to come out with something new...
1. I wouldn't be surprised for it to have a new name, letting the Rhino name fade away into the sunset...
2. I would be surprised if anything is announced before their normal "new model" announcement this winter...
Hope they choose to stay and compete in this market, because if they don't come out with something new, they're essentially gone from the market...

Unfortunately these are old. And as much of a yammy fan I was, Kawasaki already beat them building pretty much a real version of what that video was. Only better! That sport can am is gonna happen. We will have to wait untill 2013 unfortunately however 1200cc suspension to rival the kittycat. This information will self distruct in 5 seconds...

I ask my contact from Yamaha about the rumors a month or so ago and this is the info he gave me "Sorry but I cannot divulge any product information, nor can I confirm or deny any rumors that you have heard regarding future products."
You can take it as you wish but I am thinking they got something in the works because he did not deny anything..
I am also hearing can-am and Kawasaki have a sport sidexside in the works...

i saw in i think dirt wheels or maybe 4 wheel atv magazine last night while shopping at walmart with the wife that yamaha had out a prototype totally diffenernt from any spy photocrap we have seen and said it will have the 1000 motor from their snow mobile. suppose to be pushing 160 horsepower. i know how crazy that sounds but it was in a reputable magazine so who knows.

Wildcat versus RZR versu Yamaha Rhino 1000
Arctic Cat had the chance to give the Polaris RZR XP 900 a knockout punch. The Wildcat has vastly superior suspension compared to the RZR. And although both appeared to have the same horsepower "on paper," Polaris seems to be winning on this important metric due to the Wildcat's power delivery problems (back-shifting/down-shifting delays that many posters on this forum attribute to wet clutch and/or primary clutch issues). So it appears Arctic Cat missed a window of opportunity to win significant market share from Polaris. And now it appears the Wildcat is going to face even more competition. Check out the April issue of Dirt Wheels magazine. It has pictures of a concept 160-HP Yamaha Rhino 1000.
Dirt Wheels is famous for running April Fool's articles, but based on discussions today with the local Yamaha dealer (who spoke yesterday with their factory rep), a Rhino replacement is in development. And although the Dirt Wheels article covers a concept vehicle, not a prototype, the factory rep suggested the dealer get a copy of the Dirt Wheels magazine for some clues on what is in development at Yamaha. Will a new Rhino be like the machine described in the article? Will there be a new Rhino released in the next year or two? Who knows? But even if a new Yamaha is in the far distant future, there will be new competition for the Wildcat (most likely from Polaris). Wildcat missed a big chance to quickly grab a significant portion of the SxS market. Arctic Cat better get the Wildcat power/clutch issues fixed quickly or there may not be much of a market opportunity for them at all.
