Any experience with Currahee Trailers?

I'm thinking about getting a 6x10 mesh-floored utility from them to haul my Rhino on. One like these, though I'd remove the tailgate -- or do a "factory delete" if possible, trading it for perhaps a spare tire.

I've been using a 6x14 tandem Hawkline with brakes, equalizer hitch, etc. that I use to haul tractors and such with, but that thing weighs more than my Rhino.







Looking for something much lighter but still with 14" or 15" tires. I'll hold onto the other one, so I'm not looking to spend a whole lot of $$... Wouldn't mind if it was actually light enough to use behind the Rhino. But, most of the smaller trailers I'm finding (Lowes, TSC, etc. have 12" or 13" tires, many with 2000lb axles.

This Currahee has a 3500lb axle and 15" tires...

Just make sure the mesh is heavy enough or it will bend under the weight of the Rhino. I got mine from a local guy that builds them.

Seriously, I'm keeping the tandem for my tractor. I'm just looking for something lighter to haul the Rhino...

With gas going the way it is cant blame ya for wanting something lighter.

I would second that , also if your trying to keep the price down I would watch your local craiglist daily for this type trailer used. Personally I like the wooden floor and the Rhino I purchased come with the trailer 6X10 I think but I'm not happy with the tall ramp gate.
It pulls behind my 3/4 ton like its nothing compaired to the 5X16 tandem I have.



If you decide to have one built have you thought about a dove tail and short tilted ramp?



also with a wooden floor if you stay at motels with your toys you can add a thief deterrant easier.............

I use a Southern built brand 14 footer. It has a dove tail with a short gate/ramp. I can get my zero turn in with out deck drag. It has a diamond plate steel bed. I don't know if I would want the mesh flooring with the SXS weights. I might be adding a tandem axle though. When I haul firewood in it, it really loads it down. I will try to find some pics. Make sure you keep something across the back it you don't use a tail gate. One of our local new riders lost his, first time out, RZRLE on I-65 two weeks ago. Just the rear wheels came off of the trailer. Caught it in time with now damage.

Because of the distances I tow, I'm looking for primarily lighter weight and the bigger tires/wheels, which is a tough combination to find...

The Hawkline tows great, especially with the equalizing hitch, but weighs about 1700 lbs with the HD tailgates on it. I seldom use the tailgates because they're like pulling a parachute down the highway at interstate speeds. I have a pair of aluminum ramps that I use instead.

To put this in perspective -- every trip I make to Tennessee is over 2,000 miles round-trip by the time I get back home, towing about 1000 lbs of additional/unnecessary weight. I want the big wheels for all the high-speed interstate driving, but I want it to be as light as possible -- that's why I'm thinking wire mesh. (If I were rich and famous, I'd look for an all-aluminum trailer.)

So, I'm looking for "just big enough" for the Rhino since I'll keep the bigger trailer. A 6x12 PT-floored trailer weighs over 100 lbs more than a 6x10 PT-floored one for example. As soon as you go tandem, it gets MUCH heavier. I'm thinking wire mesh instead of PT 2x8 floors to cut down on weight as much as possible. I'm guessing (requested the specs) that a 6x10 wire mesh floor is somewhere around 300 to 350 lbs lighter than the PT floor. I understand it's not as strong, and may bend some, but as long as it didn't rip or tear loose I'm good with that. It looks like the Rhino's front wheels would be sitting on top of the V-tongue, and the wheels would be rolling up and down the reinforcing flat-bars that are used underneath the wire mesh. I thought, if needed, I could even bolt on a strip of plywood later, or even a 2x12 on each side, if needed, to spread the weight yet still end up with a much lighter load to pull...

That would work fine to keep the floor from making waves.
I have not tried it yet but what about in the bed of the truck and forget a trailer?

I don't have (or need) a full size long bed truck -- driving a Nissan Frontier now, and a Dodge Dakota before it, due to gas mileage issues for my commute to work. Traded down from full-size pickups (Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 before that) several years ago, and don't want to go back, especially since I have to have 4x4s....

I found a new 6x10 Currahee like the one shown on the net for $875 -- about the same price as I'm finding for used PT floored trailers on Craigs list -- so I wouldn't have to worry about tires, bearings, etc. for a while... Since they're made in Nothern Georgia, I thought someone on here might have some experience with them. You certainly can't tell anything about quality of welds, paint, etc., from pictures on the Net.

i haul my rzrS and hauled the rhino i had on a 5x10 with mesh floor. the floor lasted about a year and started breaking so i added 2x8 where the wheels go. the trailer has 2500lb axles and around 800lbs and dumps so no need for ramps but the axle sets at 50% and i have to back the rzr on or there is no tongue weight, the rhino i could haul ether way.

With the 2" wheel spacers, 5+2 offsets and 26" Big Hornies, my Rhino won't fit in/on a 5ft trailer, based on quickie measurements.

it would be tight with the spacers. i have to back on just right with my S to fit.it did not fit stock but with the lift it goes right on with no room st spare.

With quickie measurements, I think the rear tire on the Rhino would sit just at the end of flat deck, in front of the dovetail, if I put the front bumper up against the front railing. It would be close, but I think it's a little under 8ft from the bumper to the center of the rear tire. I'm not sure I'd want to tow with the rear tire sitting down on that dovetail, trying to roll/slide backwards...

I could fit in that 63" but the 61" on the 10-footer would be tight. Any idea what one of those cost?

Doh -- I meant "any idea what it weighs?" I saw the prices on their website.

I just called one of the dealers and he said the 12 ft is around 700lbs.

I have a Feather-lite trailer I use to haul my Rhino on......and love it. I would definitely recommend one to anyone.

just bought the sa7712. well built trailer, get a good look underneath the trailer and check out how they are built and compare them to other trailers and you will see the difference in quaility and craftsmanship

Smith -- I've price checked a couple aluminum trailers up here, and they're out of my price range, at $2500 and up. Would love to have one -- if I could find a used one in the $1500 or so range, I'd probably jump on it.

Rob, similarly, I have a good heavy-duty 7,000 GVW trailer already with EZLube axles, etc. Mine has a 4" C-channel tongue and main frame, for example. I'm intentionally looking for something that is lighter weight, knowing it won't be as heavy duty.

I'm trying to find something where the "break-even" point of gas savings will come in 2 or 3 years, if possible. Otherwise, it makes more sense to just stick with what I already have and pay for the extra gas... I'd like to find something in the 700 - 800 lb range, not the 1,000 - 1,100 lbs that some of them weigh (especially the 12 ft ones).

Last year, I probably put over 5,000 miles on my trailer -- two round trips to TN plus my local riding here, and pulling that additional 800 - 1000 pounds had to have cost me some significant $$. This year, given the gas prices, it alreadly looks like that I'll only be towing to TN only once, instead of twice like I did last year...

I found mine used in Knoxville for $1000....Good ol Craigslist!

All I did to it was paint the wheels, put new tires all around, and added LED lights.

You got a HELL of a deal!. Wish I could find one like that. Even steel landscape trailers are more expensive up here because most are built hundreds of miles away (Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia, the Midwest, etc.). I bought my 14' directly from the factory in Ohio several years ago and picked it up on a "detour" from TN, still saving probably $500 after paying the added gas bill...

I can buy new trailers in TN cheaper than shabby used ones here... if I can find the right deal, I'll tow my 14' one down there, fully-loaded with yard/garden equipment that I need to clean out of my barn to sell the house, and then tow a smaller one back empty...

In addition to the high gas prices, if I keep dragging this 14 footer back and forth, I'm soon going to have to put a set of tires on it -- to the tune of about $400 or so.
