| I am wanting to get a handgun that doesn't cost a fortune, & one of good quality. What do you all recommend? Just one to have for protection if ever needed. | |

| find a smith & wesson or ruger revolver .357 or .38 should be able to find one around $500 if you get the .357 you can shot .38 round in it to practice and when you carry have the very powerfull .357 for knock down power. a revolver is best if you find it hard to pull a slide back on a auto. and if it dontt go off just pull the trigger agian. this is the one monica carrys smith & wesson model 36 | |

| Ruger SP101 is a good choice too. I would stick to a revolver, even a hammerless revolver. They are point and shoot and always go bang. No failures to speak of. I also agree with the caliber, a 357 has a lot of knock down power and you can practice with .38's which are much less expensive and less fatigue on your wrist but you should practice with some .357 also just to get used to the recoil. Ruger just released a LCR that looks to be a sweet little gun, small and light weight. I have the semi version the LCP and am pleased with it and carry it at work in a pocket holster just because of the size. | |

| Go to a gun range and rent a gun. Most of your upper end ranges, knoxville anyway, have a system where you can try out different guns before you buy. If you dont feel comfortable practicing shooting a gun you have bought, odds are you wont shoot it if the time arises. You would be better off with a can of mace.
Just pulling a gun is one hell of a deterrent, but also if you pull that gun you had better be willing to pull the trigger. | |

| Glock 27
Can't hurt it, always shoots, even in the mud, ran over by a truck, under water, Great gun, 10 shots of .40 cal, will solve all your problems.
$475 ish

| Dirt Chic......38 snubnose. Get a double action......Taurus is a good one. Revolvers are easy and you can pick them up relatively cheap. | |

| Taurus is good. The Rossi model M971 in 357 mags using 38 specials is a good gun for the money. But as already suggested, go to a large gun store and try several. Hand size and personal preference varies. The Glock in 9mm is also good. Don't get one too small as if you have to pull it you want it to look like a gun. | |
