| How hard is it to replace a CV Boot on the rear wheel? Doesn't look to hard. I know I gotta take the axle out to do it. Any tricks I need to know? | |

| its not hard at all. i can do them in 30 mins.
is it the boot at the wheel (outer) or at the diff (inner)??
remove the knuckle from the a-arms and give the axle a quick jerk and the axle will pop out of the diff. now if its the boot at the wheel you will need to take the inner boot off and take the cv apart. once you get the boot off you need to clean the grease out of the cv housing. once you clean it some there will be a cir clip just inside the housing that you will need to pop out. use a small screw driver. then pull the axle and cv from the housing and don't worry if the balls fall out they will go back just don't lose them. next you will need a pair of snap ring pliers and remove the snap ring from the end of the axle and pull the cv off the axle. now if it is the inner boot you can put the now boot on but if its the outer boot remove the claps and pull it off clean cv as much as possible add new grease new boot and clamps. clamp new boot on slide clamps for inner boot on axle and the boot. put the cv back together and then put the boot clamps back on.
the boot clamps can be reused if you take your time removing them but it is best to replace. also have lots of rags. and also be sure the clamps are on the axle before you put the cv back together. some boot clamps you get you will need a special tool to get them tight so make sure you have that tool.

It's the outer one Bush. Thanks for all the info. Definitely more involved than I thought. I will probably try and do that this evening.

| if you ride a rhino long enough you will break and axle and need to disassemble the CV i have changed many with all the axles that i broke on my rhino! its not hard to do at all its just knowing what to remove. the first time i done it it was on a grizzly and i beat the shit out of the cv housing trying to get it apart until i wiped the grease out of it and seen the cir clip just inside the housing. rob im only a little over 2 hr north of you. tim i have seen them at advance auto before. i have also used a large zip-tie on the boots. my rhino has a boot held on by a zip-tie for over 2 years now. | |

| check the clamps and see if they are just a long band or i pre bent in a circle. if there long you will need the tool. but if there already round they are pre bent and all you need to do is lock them down. | |

| The reason I was asking was I got a stick/small log stuck between the alxe and the a-arm. It knocked the clamp off of the boot. I ziptied it back on for the rest of the day. The clamp is still on the axle I was wanting to put it back on the boot, but did not know if I could reuse the clamp or no. I will check the parts house to see if they have the tool. I called the Yamaha dealer but they do not sell the clamp just the boots with the clamp. It pushed some grease out when the log compresed the boot. Would it be ok to put some grease in the boot with a grease gun? Or should I take the cv apart to grease it?
