This is the last news on this.... Virginia grant pushes Southwest Regional Recreation Authority forward October 15th, 2011 10:34 pm WISE — A $70,000 state grant announced by Gov. Bob McDonnell recently marks a milestone for the Southwest Regional Recreation Authority (SRRA) in Virginia and the authority’s Spearhead Trails initiative. The Building Collaborative Communities grant announced by McDonnell was one of four programs included in a $280,000 total funding package. The Building Collaborative Communities program was created by a recommendation of the Governor’s Commission on Job Creation and is designed to assist regions in creating and sustaining new economic opportunities in Virginia’s economically distressed areas. “This first year initiative is supporting projects that create the regional collaboration that is needed to spark growth and development in these economically distressed areas,” McDonnell said. “This initial commitment is expected to leverage significant local and private resources within the communities, and stimulate job creation and economic development in these regions.” The SRRA’s share of the initial grant package will enable the authority to hire an executive director and staff to implement the authority’s business plan, scheduled for completion next month. The grant will also partially fund the early phases of development for the Spearhead Trails “Playground of the East” Adventure Tourism interactive Web site and other programmatic needs. The interactive Web site will introduce adventure tourists nationwide and beyond to the multi-use trail opportunities in Southwest Virginia with links to other regional tourist venues. A Web site is planned with mapping, e-commerce and trip planning functions to feature the largest collection of outdoor recreation offerings in the region known at this time. Revenue projections derived from similar venues in neighboring states indicate over $18 million in local sales and services annually can be generated and provide Southwest Virginia with 266 new jobs within six years.

A planned “community connector” near St. Paul is will provide access to the town’s numerous retail, lodging and dining facilities. The Mountain System spans three counties near the town of St. Paul. Alternate US Route 58 will provide access to both the trailhead and the Town of St. Paul. | Thanks Bush, you sorta threw this out there for me didn't ya? Well, I was hired Friday to be the "Operations Director" for the Spearhead Trails. I'm the "go to" guy now to get these systems up and running. Went out today and rode 30 miles of the "Mountain View System" (St. Paul) and they are in pretty decent shape. So far, I've been told that whatever I say goes.
I'm really wanting input from those that rode the exiting trails there. I want to get this one up and going in the right way, giving a variety of trails for all skill level riders. Please, any input would be greatly appreciated.
As of right now, we will have one private campground in St. Paul area and St. Paul is/will be a ATV friendly town. I'm working on establishing more trailheads and facilities for this system.
Thanks in advance for the prayers and support.

| I figured you were in Tn, of I would have definitely given you a shout. Ended up taking a couple buddies at the FD with me and we tried to use what maps were available. Talked to several members of the current club and got their input. When I get there full time (that 2 wk notice deal) I'll give you a shout and find your days off to come on out. I'm gonna have to have some volunteers right now to help out remove trees, etc. | |

| I am being told that the trail head will be only 1/2 mile from my place. However we found a shortcut from my resort to the new trail system . we want to make a trail entrance from the wv side to this as close as we can. Looks like ill be the west va resort closest to the spearhead trails.this would put us 300-500 yds away. | |
