| It can only be three things. Most common, Battery, not enough power to have the strarters cylinoid, Battery doesnt have enough juice to move the spline gear to engage the starting mechanism. Bad wiring. Bad strater.
You have eliminated one and thats a bad cylinoid the whining noise says its working.
You have an 08 so I cant imagine your cables are corrodided to the point they arent conducting enough dc power to the cylinoid starter. Check the wiring to see if it may be frayed between the battery and the cylinoid. There has to be enough starting amps get through the cables. A frayed wire may prevent this.
This sounds like classic.....not enough power going to the sylinoid for it to fully engage the starter. I would try another battery...maybe a lawn mover battery.
Good luck
As a last resort:
You ever crossed or jumped a starter before? That will be the only way that I know of to check and see if the starter is bad, but it sounds like it trying to engage to me. Just not enough amps gettin through

| Another thought.....if you have someone to help you can pull the rhino to a start behind a truck or another rhino, or quad. Now this is in relation to a hot posi cable. Once you have it running pull the positive battery cable off and see if it continues to run. If it does run your ok, if it stops running the altinator is bad or has a loose connection. A loose connection would cause the posi cable to heat up and kill one or all cells in your battery. Good luck main. | |

| You can a cvt unit like a Rhino......It doesnt disengage into free wheel like an automatic trans. Hence being call Continuously Variable Transmission. You do have to have the key on and have the rhino in gear......Next time you are out going down a hill cut her off for a second or two stop and let the engine die and turn the key on again and roll. Yea a Rhino can be pulled off to start it. Most of my hard knocks knowledge is just that I learned this the way I usually do....by mistake or the ever ellusive asking someone for help... Would have never known if I hadnt had to do it myself. | |

| Your right....it has a stator. I dont think thats your problem....after thinking about it. If the stator was bad it should still turn over but would not run. Bad call by me.
Its some where between the battery and the starter. After the battery is checked for a dead cell I would replace the posi cable from the battery to the starter. I have heard of mud and water causing the cable to act like a corroded cable and not letting enough starting amps through to the starter. If it is full of mud or water it wouldnt matter if you jump it or change battery.

| I haven't looked at a wiring diagram but i'm sure there's a starter circuit fuse and relay in the battery box. I've sometimes heard relays make buzzing noises when stuck
good luck & if that doesn't help get a BFH and start beating on it while trying to start it
