| So I have decided that I am going to throw down on either a enclosed trailer or toy hauler sometime this summer. A couple of reasons; I want to have the option of taking my wife and daughter out and let them have a good time as well as they don't like to play as long as I typically do. My wife has been into wheeling Jeeps with me for years until I started to get too extreme so she hasn't been out in a few years.
I know a full blown 24-26ft toy hauler would would be more comfortable but the prices seem to be stupid high and I have read a lot about low quality in the builds from the MFGs.
Enclosed trailer, I have no problem fitting these up but I wouldn't be putting in a toilet or shower. But will put in the basics that would make it more fun for the girls. I have been thinking either a 20ft flat or v-nose. 24ft would be better but due to where I park it and the varying grades, I think I would drag a lot going through the yard due to the length and lowness of the trailer.
So what does everyone else have and what are the pros and cons of each?

| Just food for thought, and maybe your wife is a little better at roughing it than mine, but you could easily put a bathroom with toilet and shower in a 20ft trailer and still have room to park the RZR. The campground showers can get a little nasty unless you are the early bird.
The toyhaulers can easily get stupid expensive and I too have heard tales of poor build quality. The ones I have been inside are very nice but they are also relatively new. I don't know how well they will hold up to kids and heavy use.

| Good point. I haven't set a budget yet but hoping to keep it around 7-8K for the majority of the build if I go with an enclosed trailer. I tend to get pretty good prices from Gatormade from all the trailers I as well as my friends that I directed to them on flat trailers so I was going to go and try to check out theirs in the next week or so. | |

| I made the transition from race trailer to toyhauler BECAUSE of my better half. She was getting tired of the inflatable bed and sharing a bath house with everyone else. The MSRP on toyhaulers (all campers for that matter) are CRAZY expensive. That being said, when you get down to negotiations you will realize MSRP is one of the stealerships best selling points. What I mean is after an hour or so I was down to a little better than half of the original MSRP. Salesman was all like with this and that I have saved you $14,000... I have been in sales so I let him continue with his pitch. Long story short, you need to go check them out and get a few quotes. Expect no more than 15% off their "second" Best CASH OTR price. You will not regret the toyhauler purchase. Can you take a cargo hauler with an inflatable bed to a traditional campground with the family for the weekend? Sure, but it would be much more enjoyable in a new toyhauler!! Build quality has been steadily increasing, if you are unable to purchase new, get the newest one you can. | |

| We love our enclosed trailer.. We call it the redneck toy hauler :) But I did pretty much stick everything in mine that a toy hauler has minus all the paper, cardboard and rubber roof. If your just looking for a trailer to haul a single 2 seater and you have a 3/4 truck honestly there are tons of trailers out there pretty cheap. Lots are junk, but some are pretty good for the money even more so when weight isn't a huge issiue. If your trying to decide between a basic cargo trailer with an air Matress on the floor or a premade basic toy hauler I'd say get the toy hauler. Your probably talking atleast twice the price but with a wife and kids its worth it. If you have some basic construction skills and some free weekends then you can buy a cargo and build it to suite you. You will have a much better built trailer for the money. No one says you have to sleep on a airmatress on the floor in a cargo.. We have a fold down bed with a memory foam mattress. We also have outdoor speakers, Lcd tv that will play inside and out, bathroom, ect, ect.. You can do basic to fancy and anywhere in between. I have around 12k in my trailer like it sits. I bought a few things here and there.. Ordered the cargo from the factory then spent 3 months building it. Then some of the stuff we have added later like the solar panels, bluray, two batteries. Spreading it out like that means no loan! Its more like pay as you go. Add stuff as you have the money vs paying intrest charges.. | |

That is a good thread and nice build. I am not too concerned with weight at this point as I do have a decent diesel tow rig. I tend to do well with buying at one price and then hiding the add ons over time with my wife. It is a bit easier to hide like that. At this point the wife doesn't know anything about it since her and my daughter are in Japan for the next couple of months but I would like to surprise them with something we can start to play around with. If quality was an equal for both, it really just comes down to the fun of the build. I tend to get too wrapped up in projects as I enjoy them but I have a lot of projects that take up my time so not exactly for sure which way to go. I should have bought that 16' enclosed that was on here last week as a starter. If I go the enclosed trailer route, I was thinking a 20' so I can possibly get 2 rzrs in if need be as my dad doesn't have a decent tow rig to get his to the trail. When he comes I currently haul 2 on my 16' Jeep trailer as I fabbed up a holder for the front tires on the neck of the trailer. Thinking of a table/bed like yours and maybe a pair of fold down bunk beds. TV, Stereo, countertop, cabinets, etc. Have been trolling the sites for the Gatormade and Freedom trailers so far. Gonna stop off at a few places in E-town over the next week to see what they have and start looking at quality levels.

| Like MIKE_D says, if MSRP is thrown at you, you are at the wrong dealer. Mine gave me over $15,000 off of the next best deal a few other dealers quoted me. The price I paid was over $20,000 off of MRSP. I did buy high end this time, just because I had some cash payment and wanted something to live in, if I can ever talk MUDHOE into it someday. Good luck, but look around. RVTRADER might be a place to look. | |
