PostSubject: Smooth Ride Shocks   Smooth Ride Shocks EmptyThu Nov 21, 2013 8:53 pm

I received my shocks back from SmoothRide yesterday and got them installed today.
Now I can look at them for the next two month, as we cant ride in the woods until after Deer Season is over.

Let me know how they work and if you had to make any adjustments to them. It sucks that I cant try mine until after Deer season.

I kept my 2" lift kit on to see what it would do. The adjustment he had them set on gave me 13 1/2" of clearance on my skid plate. I do not have real rough places here to test it on, but it did seam a little stiff. May need to break in the springs or make damping adjustments on the shocks. I am not making any changes until I get on some rocky trails.

Thanks for the feed back. My rear shocks felt stiff whenever I pushed down on the bumper.
Let me know how it rides whenever you get to test them on the rocks.

You might want to try them with out the lift gimpy.. Lift kits pretty much just stand the shock up more reducing the leverage. Which is a lot like adding a heavier spring and changing the valving. If he set them up for a RZR with out a lift running them with a lift will make for a stiffer ride.. The right spring rate should do the same thing as a lift.

Took the lift kit off tonight. Boy the shocks feel great now, but I went from 13 1/2" clearance on the skid plate, with the lift in, to 11" up front and 10 1/2" in the rear. I will adjust the springs tomorrow and try the ride out.

I have a a super atv 2-3" lift and the rear is extremely stiff. I am thinking I may need to take my lift off. I hate to give up the clearance.

I started making adjustments tonight with the lift kit off.  I am up to 12" clearance now.  They felt a little stiff pushing on them.  Then took them to some rough fields that used to beat me up on the old set up.   They rode like a new Cadillac.  I will try to get a little more height when it warms up some.  I rode for about an hour in woods, creeks and high speed fields.  It rides great, just don't have the same setting as Wind Rock to test them on.

Also I took others advice and removed the sway bar control rods.

He re-valves and adds different springs. If I remember right it is $800 to $1000.

Thats prob not a bad price for all 4 shocks, I know I paid around $850 for my forks and rear shock on my motocross bike this past winter.

Now don't quote me on it. You would have to check with him. But that is real close to the price. It was one of the best mods I ever did to the RZR S and RZR XP 900.

I found these pictures on my RZR XP thread. It shows you the difference between stock shocks and smoothride shocks.

Before:

Smooth Ride Shocks 13010

After:

Smooth Ride Shocks Lift10

Look at the lower radius rods and you can see how much higher my machine sets now. This is with out a lift kit and 1 1/4 preload on the springs.

Thanks to everyone for the super replies and happy thanksgiving to all . I do not post much that's just me . But anybody knows I am just a phone call away the joy for me is when you get the ride you are looking for sometimes it is good right from the start sometimes it takes a while it all depends on the machine and rider thanks so much. Smoothride, can you do your magic on all brands of shocks or just certain ones? Let's say someone had a Rhino with the stock reservoir shocks!! No leaks but tired and about 4,000 miles!!
