Illegal to have a trailer ball on your bumper

That's right! Learnt it today as a guy got a ticket for having a trailer towing ball on his step bumper. It's a law in several states as in WV and Va. How bout it Bush, what say ye?

A. Every license plate shall be securely fastened to the motor vehicle, trailer, or semitrailer to which it is assigned:
1. So as to prevent the plate from swinging,
2. In a position to be clearly visible, and
3. In a condition to be clearly legible.
B. No colored glass, colored plastic, bracket, holder, mounting, frame, or any other type of covering shall be placed, mounted, or installed on, around, or over any license plate if such glass, plastic, bracket, holder, mounting, frame, or other type of covering in any way alters or obscures (i) the alpha-numeric information, (ii) the color of the license plate, (iii) the name or abbreviated name of the state wherein the vehicle is registered, or (iv) any character or characters, decal, stamp, or other device indicating the month or year in which the vehicle’s registration expires. No insignia, emblems, or trailer hitches or couplings shall be mounted in such a way as to hide or obscure any portion of the license plate or render any portion of the license plate illegible.]

That is wild how laws change , 25 years ago , i use to pull cars
off the ball on a step bumper on a truck....
course back then i am sure bumpers were a little thicker than they
are today....

Every truck should have a receiver hitch and ball on it anyway.  That way when some dumb butt pulls to close to your truck in a parking lot he hits the hitch and ball with his bumper, instead of your bumper.  It is also a reminder to you when you walk to close to your bumper--WAM--you run into the ball and say some holy words

A ball is not an obstruction of view of license plate....it's 3" away!!.....law enforcement is being a dick in this case.

They need lots of excuses to use so they can pull over people they illegally profile and every cop knows this is true! in ga their favorite one is you veered onto the yellow line, no way to prove you didn't so it always works.
