Not a jack Kent, good info for fellow 4-fiddy owners!!

Thanks...

I'm still trying to decide if I use all 12-gram weights or just every other one...

Since this thing is bone stock -- not even jet work, after snorkeling up under the hood -- I'm not sure if all 12-gram weights might be too much...

There's just not a heck of a lot of good 450 info out there, in comparison...

I would say use all the 12's that what I am running and I am still throwing around the ideal of the 10's. The 12's alone will yield a noticeable amount of acceleration by putting the motor in a a better power band. The sheave will then be a bonus. I say this when the sheave and weights was the first mod I done to my 450.

Thanks -- I'll probably start there, and if I don't like it, then put half the stock ones back in...

Does it run at real high RPMs when cruising down the trail, or does the sheave help there? I just don't want it to be "buzzing" at all times...

I'm really looking for better acceleration instead of top end -- I'm the only 450 in two clubs I belong to, with 660s, RZRs and quads. They don't really outrun me -- the trails won't usually let them -- but they certainly accelerate out of the curves and slow spots much faster than I do...

The weights will help with the acceleration. The sheave will keep the rpm down. What is your top speed now? With the sheave I am running I gained 4mph top end and also some low end. I have a sheave with the whiterhino450 cut.

Another easy trick that will gain you acceleration is cutting 1inch from the slide spring in the top of the carb. It will let the motor rev faster yielding better acceleration.

That's the combo I'm hoping for -- accelerate up to speed and then cruise....

I'm really not sure what my top speed is. I've had it to 35 and not hit the rev limiter -- but I haven't had the opportunity to ride it much on roads to see. Most of my driving is 10-15 MPH on the trails.

I'm going to look at my carb and see if I can figure out what you're talking about on that mod. I've never messed with it...

The top of the carb has a black plastic cover which is held on with two Phillip head screws. Hold the cover down as you remove those two screws or the spring will push the black cover up as you loosen them. Remove the spring cut 1 inch off of it and reinstall it with the cut end facing up.

My top speed is 42 on flat and 44 when on slight decline hitting the rev-limiter with big gun cdi. big gun has 8300 rpm rev-limiter dynatek has 9000rpm rev-limiter.

Put zip ties on the spring to keep it compressed them put the nut in a vise and spin the sheave to loosen. at least that's what I did. I reinstalled it the same way with a drop of lock-tite.

Sea-Foams some good stuff!!!!!!!! Eh?? Mark your secondary nut with a sharpie before you loosen it, so you'll know you got it that tight when re-installing. The stock-rim trick makes it real easy!!!

yea the rim trick worked.........had to get my son to start the nut........

Celina is on the TN and Ky line about an hour north of Cookeville.
As far as riding we have several decent trails here where I don't have to haul it and this year that's about all I have done. Only downside to riding my backyard trails is all the road riding. We normally ride Pickett and alpine in Livingston several times a year since they are so close and have decent trails.

I just posted a slide show with a few pics of some of our mud holes from a few years ago here

There should be a group ride to Pickett from here before to long this year. If you cannot make that one let me know and we will try plan for one weekend. thatsright A few of us are going to Everett KY on the weekend of the 23 but any weekend after that I should be free.
