| No Ford vs,Dodge,vs Chevy jokes please. Just need some info. I've done a little research, and nothing jumps-out as problematic, execpt the mileage, but that's not a concern for me. Thanks | |

| Jimbo, I researched them before i bought my powerstroke. Not sure what years you are looking at... but, i know they had issues with the spark plugs popping out in the earlier models and striping the threads. Had to do with the thread depth not being deep enough.
hope this helps.

| I love mine... Mine is a 99 Super Duty.. I bought mine in February with 92,000 and now it has 98,000.. I average 12-14mpg in town+highway mix with or without my 16footer and rhino and have seen 18mpg on the highway.. This is after a basic tune up and a custom tune from 5 star.. If you are looking to buy one used check the exhaust manifold bolts, I have heard they tend to snap and are a common problem with the triton motors! They say you can replace the manifolds with headers and correct the problem.. | |

| Ditto on the spark plugs. I told my friend about that last year before he bought his V-10. One came out, they rethreaded it and have had no problems. He loves his. | |

| The 6.8 V10 is highly regarded on RV.net. It's a great towing engine. | |

| Just got back from driving this one. 108k, 2002. Ran-out fine, even with the lift. Drove amazingly good. I'm not a fan of this big of a lift, but it's done right, leafs and all, no blocks. Little rough around the edges. Does have evidence of some mud underneath... I can probably steal it tho, 9kish..... I'm gonna sleep on it. | |

The spark plug blow out is fairly common on all fords mod motors. I think the thing is not getting them torqued right on install and they back loose. when they back loose they pull a few threads due to the aluminum heads and instead of flying out like the old v8 motors the coil on the plugs hold them in place bouncing against the aluminum until you switch the motor off. I had a buddy call me a few months back with a 4.6 mustang they did the same and it sounded like an exhaust leak when he would put it in gear but sounded smooth at idle.. Didn't take me long to see the coil bouncing and figure it out..

Sounds like a good deal! That's just a little more than I paid for my truck and it already has a lift.. The 6.8 pulls good I think the 2002 is rated at 310hp and 415 ft lbs torque something like that.. My 99 is rated at 275hp 410ft lbs torque.. The 2002 has a different head than my 99 and also has a real restrictive y pipe in the exhaust so it may be something you want to look into swapping... What kind of exhaust is on it?

What kind of exhaust is on it? Rich,M&G thanks for the info on the plugs. I did read a thread somewhere about that. The 02 is rated at 425Ft.#s @ I think it was 6k rpm. The same 02 7.4 smoker has 80 more lbs of torque, but probably at a lower rpm. I'm not sure what exhaust is on it, it's not a coobbled-together job, looks to be a bolt-on aluminized system of some sort, sounds kinda strange tho, guess it's the V-10.

That's why I was asking! I have heard others talk about them sounds like two inline 6's under the hood...lol I want to redo my exhaust from front to rear but am afraid I will not like the sound results... The hp and torque should be listed in the owners manual.. Atleast mine is on my 99 it is rated at 410 ft lbs at 2750rpm and 275hp at 4250rpm..

| We have had four V-10's. One in a E-450 class C motorhome that would get 14 mpg if we stayed around 62-63 mph. Two were in F-250's both 4 door, short bed pickup's. One was in an Excursion with 4:30 gears. 10-11 mpg uphill, downhill, loaded, unloaded, towing ... didn't matter!!
The Excursion was supposed to be lifted and larger tires installed is why we got it with the 4:30 gears. It was replacing a Tahoe that was lifted 9" and 35" tall tires. Stock gearing, the Tahoe didn't have the power to get out of it's own way. The wife sold the Excursion for a Jeep ...... That's another story!!!
We now have three F-250's, (two 4 door long bed and one 2 door short bed) with the V-8's (gas). That motor is to small for these trucks. I like the V-10's better if you are staying with gas!!!

Nevermind.................not going to go there...... Thank God!!!! You do not want the 6.0 If you can find a 7.3 you would be in great shape. 2003 was the last year for the 7.3.

| Excursions Rock. Tow whatever and have plenty of room. I'm not a fan of lifts but that's fixable.
As for the 6.0 Diesel -- wayyyyyyy tooooo risky.

| Yeah I found out reallllll quick about the 6.OHHHHHH as some call it. I really need a gas-burner, due to my short-trips to work and back (6 miles). I think I would do more harm to a diesel than good. The V-10 it will be. | |
