just how difficult is trail 39 and trial 3 at windrock? i started down them today but my drive belt was slipping pretty good and my buddys stock prowler hdx nearly had the skid plate torn off of it already so we thought we had better stay on the moderate trails for the rest of the day.

3 is not bad at all depending on the exit up to the gravel that you take. If you stay to the right, it is fine.

That looks a lot like Hale Mountain, with Scott driving.

thanks for the info maybe a good thing i turned around i dont believe the drive belt would have held up. i know my buddy would have finished tearing off the skid plate on his prowler with it only having 10 inches of clearance.

T39 is that way cause of the jeeps, trucks and crawlers, now that coal creeks owners have opened ALL THE TRAILS to them, there will be a lot of the trails that will be too rough for atvs and sxss.

The trails have always been open to all kinds of off-road vehicle....

No they have not, only a few have, others that were used by the big vehicles were done illegally. The official map lists only a few trails where jeeps, trucks and crawlers were allowed and you know this.. only reason they used some of them is because coal creek didnt enforce it. But now they have coal creeks blessing to put any vehicle on any trail.

Well it does not really matter.....most of the trails the jeeps rode were 22,2,1,12,13,10,11,16,27,26,35,36,38,39,15 and Rattle Rock. I have only seen a jeep once across HWY. 116, So it does not really concern me. The jeeps will keep riding the trails they always have.

Now that coal creek has opened the whole park to all vehicles, why would you think they would continue on using the same old ones? There will be people try every trail up there and the damage will accrue.

1. Coal Creek's trails DO have a designation for what vehicles are allowed on each trail. Some are open to all vehicles and some are limited to ATV only. There are no specific single-track trails listed but may in the future. We do not have "someone with a gun" out making sure that certain vehicles stay off of certain trails, but we will do what we can. I am going to have more signs that say "ATV Only" made to put in in some places to help with this. Still, signs only keep honest people honest.
2. Some trails (such as 33) that used to be ATV only are not open to all. It is a connector type trail and didnt' make sense for full-sized vehicles to not be allowed on it.
3. As for the rumor that the trail crew has been told to widen all trails.....well, that is completely untrue. What WAS said was that most of the new trails that are constructed in the future will be multi-use. This is when we were talking about a new potential trail over near Duncan Flats. There will be new trails that are constructed that will be ATV only or single track only. Most of this will be based on vehicle width. Some areas are too narrow for certain types of vehicles.
One final note. I understand that each user group wants their own specific trails. I have owed, ATVs, dirt bikes, and 4x4s. We have 72,000 acres and there will always be enough trails for all user groups. I was on one of our newer trails last week on an ATV. It was obvious that there had been much more traffic from SxS than ATVs because the ruts were the "wrong" width for the ATV. Before too long, I'm sure someone is going to want to separate those to groups as well. Not happening. The trail crew has been out working very hard to locate new trails. This year, I want to add lots of new trails for all of our customers.

Exactly what Brent said tonight at the Windrock ATV Club meeting. Thanks for posting this Phil. Some people like twisting a story into something it's not.

I think i see where this is going......With Tellico now closed. I see Windrock making itself into the Large 4x4 mecca of the East. It could get real crowded with large vehicles there if they promote it as such.

Yea, T39 ate my front diff (plastic sprague) and BUSTED my rear ITP wheel last month. I think the diff would have been ok had the rear wheel not busted. We made it up without winching the other bikes, but it took a LONG time and lots of rock placing...it can be done.
I'm not sure it's a trail I would plan to go on though, unless you enjoy breaking stuff and slow, rocky, steep climbs.
