| 2001 Dodge 3/4 ton Cummins Turbo Diesel. I traded for a new trailer this year. One in this pick is a 10ft tilt bed and I got a 12ft drive on ramp now. 16-18 mpg towing and 18-20 mpg empty running the speed limit or just a whisker under. | |

It was an 07. And was a Gas Hog. Got sick of feeding it, and wanted something new. Explorer got 10mpg towing and 12 everyday driving. Had a 300hp V8 in it. The Escape has a 240hp V6 and gets 14 towing and 19 everyday driving. | |

| I've got an 08 Tundra with a 5.7L engine. Gets 15-16Mpg around town empty. Anywhere from 8-12Mpg towing depending on whats behind you. Pulling a 24+ cargo trailer with two SxSs in it I got around 8 going through TN. This truck has the most @ss of any half ton I've ever drove. 12" rear end with 4.30 gear ratio. 382hp 401# of torq. When I decided to trade our SUV in on a second truck I had to go to a 3/4 diesel to get a stronger truck. Now the new truck is a 2011 Chevy 2500 with a 6.6 duramax diesel. Haven't had it long enough to have set numbers on mileage. I've seen everything from 18 to 12mpg empty. Towing the same 24' trailer to brimestone I only got around 11mpg average. Not great but its better then 8 I guess. With the diesel however the truck Never down shifts to make a hill. I could drive up a mountain running 70 with a trailer behind me in the tundra, But it might be in 4th gear doing it. With the duramax you set the cruise at 70 and it just goes. Up down around what ever. never shifts and the RPMs never jump up. Its pretty wild. Between the exhaust brake and the allison transmission you pretty much don't even need trailer brakes. At least not on a 8k trailer. | |
