Been working on something to replace the machined sheave for a while and we finally have it.
Even though it appears the Hunterworks sheave has the least amount of what is termed " roller weight flop" due to us not machining as much out of the sheave as most, it had a slight amount.
The arguments on who's sheave is or was the best has caused many argument on forums.
Well in the process of going greaseless on the primary sheave I ran across a company who made sliding weights but didn't make them like I needed them made so I had them make them the way I wanted.
Roller weights don't really roll they do a hybrid motion of sliding and rolling, they move in a sideways V or a > sign.
So when I saw the original set of sliding weights I decided if they were made just right they might just do what a machined does which is make the two primary sheave halves come in together more making the belt ride higher thus giving us a overdrive.
We had several sets of prototypes and finally got it right and the best part is if you want to, you can run your sheave greaseless as the coves on these sliding weights are made from a high heat self lubrication material and do not need grease.
So I don't have to retype my whole going greaseless article again, click on the link below. It will explain the greaseless part to you. Realize that article is talking about the new round roller weights not the sliding roller weights.
Going GreaselessThe best part about these new sliding weights is the cost compared to a machined sheave, our machined sheave is $199 and these weights are only $64.95. If you want to go totally greaseless you will need the slides to go with it too. I am mostly talking about Rhino 700 owners but they work in the 660 as well. The sliding weights are the same but the slides are not in the 660. If you want to go greaseless along with the new sliding weights then 660 owners need the cam plate along with the slides.
You can save money by buying it all at once.
Total packages:
Rhino 700; sliding weights and slides $86.95
Rhino 660; Sliding weights, cam and slides $124.95
As you can see this is a big savings and you can do away with the grease.
The new slides have all the positive affects of the machined sheave with no negatives.
Road and Speed Testing
Our Test Rhino
08 700 with plastic roof and fold down windshield
Only the HW machined sheave it did 0-40 mph in 6.81 sec and top speed was 50 when it hit the rev limiter. (no msd)
With stock sheave and HW sliding weights it did 0-40 in 6.51 sec and top speed 50 again.
I would call the 0-40 times the same since a human and foot were involved.
I added a MSD to the Rhino with HW sheave and top speed gained from 50 to 52 on flat ground to 56 on a slight down grade.
With the stock sheave, MSD and HW sliding weights it ran the same, 52 on flat ground and 56 on the slight down grade.
So there is nothing to give up using our new sliding weights and it cost less too.
While I realize this is may seem strange to you but I assure it works as advertised.
At the end of the day you get the following:
Lower cruise RPM
Higher top speeds
You can lose the grease
less CVT maintenance
