And a disappointing much later version of a fine song -- IMO Side 4 of "Four Way Street" recorded live is simply some of the best rock guitar ever done...

It's getting later in the week, still in the morning, so let's soften it up a little and go a little farther back to who I consider the best male vocalist of my lifetime. A man who Elvis considered the best in the business, and his only career threat, but still doesn't get his due, IMO. Most people think of only "Pretty Woman" when you mention Roy Orbison...
Here's his cover of a classic love song... originally by the Righteous Brothers, I believe...
Or, an incredible duo with k.d. laing, showing some of his vocal range, on one of his own classics...

Coot,
When it comes to music, I feel privileged to have grown up in that time in East Tennessee, graduating HS in '69....
Watching country and rockabilly influence even the British invasion, seeing the Beatles first US tour live on Ed Sullivan, yet growing up with many of the musicians that influenced them. Watching, with vested interest, the whole anti-war movement (yet lucky enough to have a 353 draft number) that spawned so many songs, especially Crosby, Stills & Nash and other more folk singers.
Shoot, Janis Joplin and Big Brother playing the Homecoming at UT, where I was a freshman in the fall of '69. Got a chance to go to a Voluneer Jam and see Charlie Daniels and friends just coooook!
Meanwhile I was firmly grounded in country. Two older brothers went to HS with Dolly Parton, and I've watched Ricky Skaggs when he sat on a stool in the corner of Buddy's BBQ (a friends BBQ joint), playing for tips...
There's a period there from about 1965 to the emergence of disco, that I think will live forever in the history of music... and yet my favorite flavor will always be Southern Fried....
