Fixing the moose!!!! Empty
PostSubject: Fixing the moose!!!!   Fixing the moose!!!! EmptyMon Nov 09, 2009 11:55 am

How many of you guys have a moose lift that failed? Well mine did for the last time.

This is what is looks like after it fails. I had some strips but they were aluminum and broke.

Here is how to fix it for good.

You will need two peaces of steel flat bar. 1@1-1/2" wide by 36" long by 3/16 thick for cross brace and 1@ 1" wide by MIN 20" long by 1/8" thick for vertical braces.
Fixing the moose!!!! Wvyank026s

measure how long your peaces need to be. The cross bar is easy. Just measure from one side to the other. The vertical braces are harder because you have to bend angles. However, I have done it for you. The cross brace is 23" and the vertical braces are 9-1/2".

You will need some type of light material to make a pattern for the vertical braces or just eyeball it. Put it in a vice and bend it to fit.
Fixing the moose!!!! Wvyank032

The 1-1/2" flat bar will need to be notch too fit around the frame. Place the bar against the lift and mark where it needs to be cut.

I used a grinder to cut the notches. You will need to notch out about 3/16".

Now clamp your cross brace up against the moose and mark the holes with a pencil. Do the same with the vertical braces too.

Once you have the holes marked, drill them with a drill press. You will not be able to use a hand drill. It is a 15/32" hole and the hand drill will walk around on you. Your holes will not line up and you will have to start over. trust me

Now mark your angles to shape it all up so it can look nice.
Fixing the moose!!!! Wvyank045

Once you cut and drill everything into shape put the primer to it....

Add the paint....
Fixing the moose!!!! Wvyank048

Bolt it all up and you are good to go. The damn thing should be built like this to start with!
