Then bounces off the governor, topping out at 73MPH -- all based on the speedo.

Don't really care about the speed just as long as it is good on the trails, can't do 73 at Brimestone, or Heartland.

IMO, in general trail riding it is the acceleration that is most important, not the top speed. The obstacles will inevitably make you slow down, even if they're only curves on a relatively smooth trail...
This big heavy dude accelerates as well as, or slightly better than the RZR-S...
I haven't seen a head-to-head with the Prowler 1000 which weighs about the same, but for trail riding I'd still choose the Commander over the Prowler for several reasons...

Are you sure about stock? this video is quite different doing the same test where they run it for over 2.5 minutes and barley reach 69 at the end, and watch the trip meter it takes them 1.2 miles on flat ground to get there.

Gunny, I wasn't there... I neither witnessed it, nor tore down the engine to inspect it. All I'm doing is passing on the info. What can I say? Here's another...

Aren't there 3 different keys for different performance?
Wonder if that's the difference as the rpms were close.

The first video might have been of this modified one the can am guys had with them.
and here is a race between a rzr s and the can am, just barely passes him at the top. If you factor in 240cc bigger motor thats not very impressive in my book.

Well 73mph in 21 seconds with one and only 69 mph in over 2 minutes and 1.2 miles to get there in the other shows something is different with these two machines big time.

I have rode the 1000 XT and X models 2 different times, at Snowshoe WV and Windrock and it's my job to be objective and honest with what I do for a living......many things I liked many things I didn't like. overall, I was not that impressed. either the demo units on the Can-Am truck aren't the same as these other people are riding or people are just hyping the unit. I'm not sayibng it's a POS at all, I'm just saying you can read on some forums that it is the most awesome machine on the planet and the bar has been raised so far above the others and that's BS, it's simply not as impressive as some want to imply......

Given that perspective, and with the Commander beating the RZR-S in both the "drag race" video that I posted and the "hill climb" video that you posted, I guess that means the RZR-S would take a long, long time to get to 69 MPH -- if it ever could...
Gunny, the Commander is a much bigger, much heavier, more versatile machine than the RZR-S, so that's what the extra 240cc is pushing... and IMO, it seems to push it pretty danged well.

A stock rzr s wont run 69, but it will run 63 so given that perspective to gain 6mph with the can am, all you have to do is have a 240cc bigger motor and smack down about 4 grand more. So who in that deal is the one who is

MSRP on the 1000cc Commander: Base: $12,799 XT: $14,299 X: $14,699
MSRP on the new RZR-S: Base: $12,499 Carbon Fiber LE: $13,999 Orange Madness LE: $13.999
Seems to me that instead of "four grand" the difference is $300 on the base models and $300 to $700 on the upgraded models.
Maybe a remedial math course could help you "figure out" who's really getting
How many owners (regardless of brand) spend $300 or more to gain 6 MPH? And that still doesn't address the increased payload, towing capacity, electronics, etc. Put it that way, and that $300 buys you a heck of a lot, if any of those things are of value to you...

You have to practice real world pricing, go check the can am forum and read the posts from guys who have deposits down, All are having to pay full retail, + a heavy freight charge + a canam dealer fee bringing the price to about 17k before tax for the X model. I can buy a 2011 rzr-s LE, not the cheaper version for 12,800 at two different dealers. So thats where the 4k difference comes in.

So you're touting the fact that the RZR-S is being heavily discounted, already, and that's supposed to be a plus? Help me understand that one...
As far as some dealers trying to charge premium prices -- what can I say? I've seen dealers try to do it to new models of sought after cars, trucks, and all kinds of things. Here's a link where you could've gotten a new Commander for MSRP + $299 doc fee -- i.e. no "inflated pricing"...

No, just stating some polaris dealers practice heavy volume pricing unlike cann am who has a reputation for over priced machines. To me getting a good deal is a plus. But it's not just polaris dealers that do this type deal, many other brands have dealers doing it to.
At Southern Honda in Chattanooga you could get a deal on a big red if thats your desire.

No, I'm perfectly happy with the $2200 below MSRP that I fot on my holdover "for-fiddy" and perfectly satisfied with the machine...
Here's an example of where you can get a Commander at below MSRP -- not thousands above:
I'm just calling on your "four grand" difference -- it simply isn't there, unless you're an absolute sucker for a Commander and willing to pay any price...

He is taking down payments now and will be selling them at below retail because he thinks here in Connecticut they won't sell many(no legal place to ride and tight trails). I know he is getting a X , yellow XT and don't remember what the third one will be.
Well i guess if you want to travel to Connecticut and buy one with lots of extras you could save a few bucks over retail. Might want to price those "extras" can am gets 1100.00 for their skid plate for the commander. Since your happy with the 450 rhino and i have no desire to own a can am i guess it really doesnt matter what one will cost but if you think anyone will be getting a deal on one anytime soon anywhere sxs's are really popular i think your mistaken.

Anyway, you guys have fun. I just wanted to post a video to show that the one this topic is about being STOCK is henky. I did not plan on getting drawn into a pissing match with the RZR haters, seems nothing much has changed around here in that respect.
