Noise in rearend Empty
PostSubject: Noise in rearend   Noise in rearend EmptyMon Dec 22, 2014 9:02 pm

Just got a 2008 rhino 700, my son and I have gone through it and found watery oil in the rear diff, drained and refilled it and found no metal shavings.
We do hear a clunking sound coming from the driver side rear cv when turning to the right, not real bad at first but we have driven it now maybe a 3/4 of a mile and we can hear it clearly more so now.

We are new to the side by sides mechanics, we are use to quads and dirt bikes so any help learning would be great.

We thought 2 things, 1 remove cv and check it out, and 2 replace bearings in the diff.

Anything else these two rookies should check or replace? Thanks for your help

Okay we adjusted the e brake already because it wasn't holding and after we did it seemed to me the noise was louder. So is that a common noise creator?
The previous owner gave me all his service records and it seems to me they had to replace axles often, but then they were running in sand dunes.
We jacked it up and ran it in low off the ground there is no noise during that test.
Funny thing is I hopped in the bed of the rhino to listen while my son drove it and the noise seemed to be gone, or at least much reduced, if that information helps diagnoses any. Thanks Redneckranger we hope to get the axles out for inspection soon.
